The wait is over for BioShock 2. The viral marketing is over for Dante’s Inferno. 2010 gets its first big head-to-head multiplatform release date. Which one (if any) are you picking up? More »
Looking ahead to this week’s drops — PS3-only Resistance 2 makes you proud to be an American on Election Day. Gears of War 2 is the gigantic 360 exclusive, on Friday. James Bond: Quantum of Solace and Tom Clancy’s Endwar are the big multiplayer platform releases. This week’s breakdown: Eight titles for the PC, PS3 and Wii, 10 for the 360, 12 for the PS2, one for the PSP and shovel-load 23 for the DS. The full list is on the jump. Tell us what you’re picking, panning, renting, playing, buying-and-not-playing in the comments.
Ten years of waiting come to an end Tuesday for fans of Fallout. The third installment of life in post-nuke America finally arrives on the big boy platforms. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 also stops flapping its yap and comes to PC. Those with the Wii can play FIFA and PS3 gamers can grab SingStar’s second volume and karaoke-along. After that, it’s the usual parade of licensed stuff and single-platform who-dat? releases. Of note, Penny Arcade’s next episode is available for download on Wednesday, and Strong Bad’s latest installment arrives Monday for Wii and Friday for PC. As always, the entire list is on the jump, where you may brag to everyone what you’re playing/renting/disdaining for the coming week.
Dead Space and Saints Row 2 are this week’s highly anticipated AAA-drops, coming out on Tuesday. Age of Booty for XBLA (Wednesday) and Thursday (PSN) is the DLC highlight. Sports fans get Blitz: The League II on Monday and FIFA Soccer 09 on five platforms on Tuesday. I’ve gotta be a little more strategic about my rentals, so I might take a peek at Saints Row 2; Dead Space I may not buy this week just for the backlog, but it’ll definitely be on my screen sometime soon. What about yours? Full list on the jump.
Looks like nearly every shovelware PC title for Q4 drops on Tuesday. Sorry to paint with broad strokes but that is a kitchen-sink list of titles, and I’ve heard of about four of them. Other highlights for Super Tuesday include Age of Booty, on 360, PS3 and PC and Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood on DS. Xbox 360 gamers, the wait for Mega Man 9 is over as of Wednesday. But holy Toledo, that’s a long list, so I am sticking it on the jump. Let me know of the gems in that lineup that I’ve missed, cause it’s hard to stand out.
Spore! It’s out. You might be playing it (right now, even), you might not. Yes, this Week In Games is late (sorry). And the big release is Spore. There are other games out this week as well. Those are listed below.
Sunday (Sept. 7) Spore (PC, Mac) Spore Creatures DS (DS)
Monday (Sept. 8) NHL 2K9 (Wii) Viva Pinata: Pocket Paradise DS (DS) Lock’s Quest DS (DS)
Tuesday (Sept.9) Yakuza 2 (PS2) Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI (PC) NHL 09 (360) TNA iMPACT! (360) Zoids Assault (360) Active Life: Outdoor Challenge (Wii) Hell’s Kitchen (Wii) The Price is Right (Wii)
Wednesday (Sept. 10) Dragonball Z: Trilogy (PS2)
So… Spore. Whaddaya think?
Big week for new releases to take advantage of the Labour Day weekend shopping. Tuesday, Tiger Woods gets his Jesus on and Disgaea 3 comes out. Thursday, the highly anticipated Castle Crashers finally arrives on XBLA. And Friday, we have not only The Sims 2: Apartment Life, but also Prison Tycoon 4: Supermax. If you rent in San Mateo, don’t buy both, one will cover your entire range of experience.
Really, though, Prison Tycoon? Prison Tycoon FOUR?! How did I never hear of this? And Supermax? Supermax is administrative maximum, isn’t everyone like in solitary there? (Fun fact: My landlords in Boulder did time in Florence, Colo. — scroll down to “A Trial With Teeth” — across the street at Supermax’s little brother.) How is Prison Tycoon 4 any different from those sociopathic Sims videos where they box a guy in a tiny room and watch him go bonkers over the course of nine hours.
Anyhow, here’s the roster, let us know what you’re gettin’ and how many hours of pay that computes to and don’t forget to unload your Prison Tycoon 4 shower jokes.
A pretty big week considering one hard copy title, Madden 09, always sits like a 500-pound gorilla on the second Tuesday in August. Madden will release on six consoles, and it’s not surprising that some big boxes in rural areas are breaking street on that (I bought Madden ’05 in Morganton, N.C. about four days ahead).
The real action is in the realm of downloadables. Strong Bad’s Cool Game for Attractive People, which should be a hoot and is out for Wii and PC. Bionic Commando: Rearmed provides action and nostalgia for the same low price on PSN and XBLA. There’s also Fable II pub games, beating the drum for that franchise’s upcoming sequel.
All things considered, this is a value-added week for new games. Which ones are you grabbing?
Oh man, Hannah Montana or the Cheetah Girls. Hannah Montana or the Cheetah Girls. Let’s not miss the bigger picture here: Hannah’s on the PS2 only. Nintendo, you been served notice that Sony’s in your henhouse, gonna break your hold on tweentertainment bubblegumware. This totally makes up for Final Fantasy XIII.
