Aaron Greenberg Goes Berserk, Bites Sony In The Face

We haven't seen corporate smack talk like this since Sony exec Peter Dille went apeshit last July! Microsoft executive Aaron Greenberg takes the puffy sparring gloves off, picks up a battle axe and swings it at Sony. (While dropping bombshells like: "Today Xbox 360 has a 5-million-unit console sales lead on a global basis based on most recently public reported data from both companies. This includes more than double the installed base in the US according to actual NPD sell-through and over a 1-million-unit lead across Europe also based on reported sell-through from Chart Track and GfK.") Just listen as Greenberg unloads, spewing corporate venom all over Sony:

I know a lot of folks enjoy watching the console wars and we would never underestimate our competition. But answer to your question specifically, didn't Sony promise all of this last year including Home as well? We have been fighting Sony's promises from the day we entered the market and if you remember at that time it was all about PS2 being an online cybercity with partner announcements from the likes of RealNetworks and AOL. Then three years ago at E3 they showed what PS3 games would supposedly look like with the Killzone 2 video, that we are now learning will ship four years later. That means that we will have shipped Gears of War and Gears of War 2 before they can even get Killzone out the door. Think back to GDC 2007 when Sony promised to leap ahead in online with the Sony Home unveil. Here we are two years later and multiple delays for a product that has appears to have little to no buzz. Where are the achievements? The friends list integration across all games? Where is the long-promised video store? Where are all the other products using and networking with their CELL chip? How come Blu-ray did not result in better games? What happened with Sixaxis and rumble? Where is the complete 1080p game library we were promised? If Blu-ray as they said would be such a catalyst to PS3 console sales, then why have PS3 sales over the past couple months not seen any lift since the format victory?

The reality is that Xbox 360 is leading this generation with a larger installed base, more than 2xs the games library, the most exclusives along with the leading online service and community. While we have not yet announced all of our plans for the full year, I am confident that we will extend our lead over the PS3 in 2008. Today Xbox 360 has a 5-million-unit console sales lead on a global basis based on most recently public reported data from both companies. This includes more than double the installed base in the US according to actual NPD sell-through and over a 1-million-unit lead across Europe also based on reported sell-through from Chart Track and GfK.

The days of Sony snowing the consumers and the press are over, I think the pressure is now really on them more than ever to deliver on all of these promises.

Sony, would you like to retort?

Killzone 2 and Home take ages because Sony believes in Quality!

Not raping people for money like Microsoft.

those two sentences alone shut down this guys stupid rant.

Why do you even post this crap kotaku?

    Seriously?

I couldn't give a rats ass about consoles or money, or who wins!

I'm not winning as a consumer!

When Sony puts out a game that has had complete love go into it then I will be a winner.

I cannot wait for Killzone 2, whenever it may come out, along with home.

This guy should worry about more alarming things like hi health, he is o fat, all he would have to do is cut out 1 of his 10 meals a day and he would lose weight!

It's not Kotaku's fault. It's entirely your fault for reading the article.

It's natural for corp. execs to talk shit about their rivals... It's part of the game! The only people that like it are their loyal fanboys, I mean followers. Those are the only people these rants cater to.
So, for the rest of us that actually play our consoles and enjoy them to the fullest, we should know better than to argue with these guys. Every now and then though, we get the urge to do it anyway! I guess this was all for nothing!!!

    @bkchurch

"Also it's not exactly fair to brag about how much faster Gears 1 and 2 have come out compared to Killzone 2 since Sony is basically building an amazing proprietary engine with Killzone 2"

It's fair considering Sony showed FMV footage of Killzone 2 claiming it was ingame footage running on a dev kit 3YEARS AGO!!!

Funny how it's Ok for Sony to lie but it's not fair for MS to tell the truth.

I don't understand why any American's would support a japanese company like Sony.

Mr. Greenberg should at least take into account the 33% failure rate of the Xbox 360 before espousing that they've outsold their rivals. 33% of 5 million consoles is 1.65 million, which removed from the 5 million constitutes 3.35 million.

I think Sony exposed a raw nerve with their announcements at Playstation Day. That's about the only reason this rant took place. Not really a classy move, but that's gutter politics for you. Microsoft has had a few broken promises of their own that have far greater consequences, but that's another topic.

SONY just flat out lies... and you are all suckers to rationalize why... ohh its quality, or perfectionist, or male homosexual MGS4... sooooo pathetic we have become.

For roundeyes you are defnitely sleeping at the wheel... lol... keep rationalizing why (since you are soooo smart and have all the answers to life).

360 and Wii have the games, and that's the truth...
