This Is What Happens When You Forget It's Australia Day

A friend of mine just asked me, "So what special Australia Day themed post are you putting up on the site today?" My reply? "Oh, crap."

So, like when they start replaying matches from the 1970s when it's raining at the cricket, here's my stab at celebrating Australia Day, gamer-style. It's a segment from last season's Good Game that looked at the history of game development in Australia. Isn't this cheating? Not really, I wrote that segment. Enjoy!

Now, with that out of the way, what's your favourite Aussie-made game?

Nice segment. Will you have an Australia Day 'theme' next year? Will be great to see....

You wrote that segment? nice job.

I had alot of fun with destroy all humans, so i'll pick that.

That "Zelda-ish" counter mentioned the other week is done. It's a PSP game, but it looks a heck of a lot like Zelda. I don't speak Japanese, but there you go.

Damn, Dark Reign was Australian? You learn something new everyday! Easily my favorite Aussie game then, Dark Reign was what hooked me on RTS.

I always had a soft spot for Blades of Vengeance on the Mega Drive. This one's a Beam Software title published by EA in... '93 I think. There was a really great series of articles in... Sega Megazone back in the day looking at how the game came about. Either that or Hyper, but I'm pretty sure it was the former. Was a very nice hack'n'slash platformer for up to two players.
