PS3 Exclusive Demon Souls Is Selling Out

From Software's exclusive PS3 role-playing-game Demon's Souls isn't exactly getting stellar reviews. It doesn't matter. The game is flying off selected Japanese store shelves.

According to these photos, the game has sold out at both Yodobashi Cameras in Shinjuku, Bic Camera in Shinjuku, a Sofmap (dunno where!) and a TSUTAYA (ditto!).

The game went on sale February 5th, and some retailers don't think they'll be getting in another shipment until today or tomorrow. The brisk sales might be the result of low initial shipments not anticipating this type of demand.

Click through the gallery below for the sold out signs. Be aware that Japanese retailers keep empty plastic cases on store shelves with the actual stock behind the counter.

?????????PS3??????????????????? [?????]

Actually the reviews for this so far has been quite good, the famitsu ones all had interesting things to say.

Dengeki gave it (4 different reviewers):

While Famitsu gave it (also 4 different reviewers):

So two guys out of 8 who thought the game was great, 3 who didn't like it due to the challenge and two who thought it was good (bordering on great).

And having watched the live streams of this game (and other playthroughs on Nicovideo) I think it is apparent why this divides opinion. It doesn't cater to a lazy style of play, there are deadly enemies everywhere and there are deathtraps and if you do you will go back to the beginning of the level.

But even so, from what I've seen the game makes me think of Ico. The environment all feels put together as a consistent place that is connected, you reach levers/etc. that opens areas at other places in the levels.

It's almost like an Action Rpg Ico. But one that does expect a lot from the player, there are no Fable style guidelines or hud arrow pointing where to go. There is no map. It's only you and your weapons.

Refreshing imo and I can understand why others are interesting.

thats FromSoftware for you. every once in a while when they arnt ship shipping out AC games they like to play around a bit. i look there RPG games, like EverGrace on the PS2. i saw someone on my friendlist playin it just now, and i want it.
