The Week In Games

Now this is better. Not only are there plenty of games coming out this week, but many of them are actually good, for example Street Fighter IV. Your credit card’s already bracing itself at the prospect of being molested by clammy-palmed videogame shop assistants across the country. Good luck!

Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned (360)
What Is It? The long-awaited new GTA IV chapter, this time all about the biker gangs of Liberty City.
Should You Care? PC and PS3 owners should close their eyes, stick their fingers in their ears and chant “La-la-la-la-la!”

Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (DS)
What Is It? Sprawling platformer with addictive RPG elements.
Should You Care? Many regard it as the best in the series since Symphony of the Night.

Disgaea 3 (PS3)
What Is It? Hardcore strategy RPG populated by anime characters with funky haircuts.
Should You Care? Always a solid series, so yes. Note that this is only available at EB.

Dragon Quest V: Hand of the Heavenly Bride (DS)
What Is It? Yet another JRPG remake for the DS, previously unreleased in PAL land.
Should You Care? Let’s keep encouraging Square Enix and Ubisoft to bring these titles out locally.

Eternal Sonata (PS3)
What Is It? RPG where you “travel with 19th century composer Frederic Chopin as he explores a magical dream world during his final hours among the living.”
Should You Care? It received mixed reviews on its Xbox 360 release ages ago, but there are few other RPG options on the PS3.

House of the Dead: Overkill (Wii)
What Is It? Wii-exclusive light gun shooter that pays homage to every great and terrible zombie-horror flick.
Should You Care? Quality-starved Wii gamers finally have something to get excited about.

Petz: My Baby Panda / My Kitten Family / My Monkey Family (DS)
What Is It? Three different games, sadly. All pretty much your standard pet sim fare.
Should You Care? Only if you’re suffering Nintendogs withdrawal.

Street Fighter IV (360, PS3)
What Is It? Some one-on-one fighting game. Don’t know too much about it, to be honest.
Should You Care? Yes.

Time Hollow (DS)
What Is It? Narrative heavy, Japanese developed adventure game.
Should You Care? For fans of Professor Layton and Hotel Dusk.

Tomb Raider: Underworld (PS2)
What Is It? Yep, it’s the delayed PS2 port of last year’s Lara outing.
Should You Care? There are certainly worse PS2 games to buy right now.

Warhammer 40K: Dawn of War II (PC)
What Is It? RTS sequel that pushes even further into squad-based RPG territory.
Should You Care? Absolutely. This should be one of the PC games of the year.

Yu-Gi-Oh Tag Force 3 (PSP)
What Is It? The “most advanced” Yu-Gi-Oh game to hit PSP, apparently.
Should You Care? If card-duelling turns you on, sure, why not!
