German Gunman Already Linked With Gaming

In case you missed the news earlier today, German teenager Tim Kretschmer went on a shooting rampage. Killed fifteen people. And already, attempts are being made to link the atrocity to gaming.

The Associated Press report on the shootings - which will be the same one run in countless newspapers/websites across the world - sadly tries to slip in a link between Kretschmer's playing of Counter-Strike and the murders.

A 17-year-old who would give only his first name, Aki, said he had been studying this year with the shooter at a private business school, and described him as a quiet, reserved person.

Aki said the two played poker together, both in person and online, as well as a multiplayer video game called "Counter-Strike" that involves killing people to complete missions.

"He was good," Aki said.

They're not BLAMING the attacks on Counter-Strike. Far from it. But why describe Counter-Strike like that, if not to try and drum up or somehow prey upon people's ignorance? Really, AP, we'd expect better from the likes of you.

    Here we go again.
Funny this. They spend so much time not letting games get released in Germany, or getting censored to pieces.
How could they possibly link it to Gaming?
They should say: 'Killings linked to not being able to game'.

Of course, it is terrible what happened there.
Just another sick individual, causing death and misery.

Jesus fucking Christ EVERYONE plays video games now days so we could literally blame it on anything:

MAN DIES IN CAR ACCIDENT - was a big Mario Kart gamer
POLITICIAN CHEATS ON WIFE - was known to play the Sims
FIREMAN RESCUES CAT FROM TREE - learned his skills playing Brave Firefighters
ROAD PAVED IN DESOLATE COUNTRY TOWN - council workers played Tiger Woods on their break
MAN FATHERS TWENTY CHILDREN IN 5 DAYS - puts the blame on Fallout 3

I mean seriously - arent we getting tired of this one? Nothing to see here anymore...

Someone pointed out to me the other day, if you watch the German version of 'Meet the Soldier' for Team Fortress 2, you'll actually notice a complete lack of blood and gibs.

Honestly though, Counter Strike? Of all the games to blame violence on, you think they'd pick GTA again or something. I'm pretty sure 'click to shoot' in CS is not adequate training in how to obtain and operate lethal firearms in real life. Maybe they should be focusing on the real issues as to just how he got those weapons and why he felt the need to gun down in such a cruel and heartless way, so many innocent lives.
