The Week In Games

Capcom are on a roll right now. Fresh from the success of Street Fighter IV, this week sees Resident Evil 5 lurch into retail. Don’t forget, there’s also that Red Xbox 360 launching on Friday.

March 12

Bleach: Dark Souls (DS)
What Is It? Card fighting game based on the anime and manga series.
Should You Care? Do you know anything about Bleach?

Burnout Paradise: The Ultimate Box (PC)
What Is It? Massively-multiplayer arcade racing game, now on PC with all the DLC console owners have received over the last year.
Should You Care? It’s great on console and there’s nothing like it on PC.

Cabela’s Dangerous Adventures (360, PS3)
What Is It? Sounds like a hunting game.
Should You Care? Sounds like a hunting game.

Grey’s Anatomy (Wii, DS, PC)
What Is It? Pixel-hunting point-and-click adventure based on you-know-what.
Should You Care? You shouldn’t, but maybe your mum does.

Jake Power: Soccer Star (DS)
What Is It? Some sort of simple sports game wrapped around a kids TV show character, I’d guess.
Should You Care? No.

My Sims Party (Wii, DS)
What Is It? “You and your friends have the chance to Stick the Trick in the extreme snowboarding mini game, outrun a robot in Robo Assault or shake your groovey thing with DJ Candy during the Go Go Dancing challenge.”
Should You Care? Only if you don’t have enough mini-game compilations.

NPPL Championship Paintball 2009 (360, PS3, PS2)
What Is It? First-person paintball sim. It’s got an official license, online multiplayer and even a map maker.
Should You Care? I’m intrigued by the sheer novelty of it all, though I have no hope its anything other than terrible.

Patapon 2 (PSP)
What Is It? Rhythm-based strategy game.
Should You Care? Very similar to the original, so maybe pick that up for cheap instead.

Petz: My Horse Family (DS)
What Is It? I’ll go out on a limb and suggest it could be some sort of horse care sim.
Should You Care? Look, a three-headed monkey!

Resident Evil 5 (360, PS3)
What Is It? Survival horror shooter with an emphasis on co-op play.
Should You Care? Yeah, this is what all your friends will be playing this week.

Scrabble 2009 (DS)
What Is It? The 2009th in the venerable Scrabble series.
Should You Care? Wait, have I done that joke before?

Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 (PS2)
What Is It? Kooky, but awesome JRPG from the current masters of the genre, Atlus.
Should You Care? This is my pick for game of the week.

Sonic and the Black Knight (Wii)
What Is It? It’s a new Sonic game with a new Sonic gimmick – sword combat!
Should You Care? Only if the Mega Drive Ultimate Collection somehow offends your religion.

Tenchu 4: Stealth Assassins (Wii)
What Is It? Ninja sim where you get to use the Wiimote as a shuriken.
Should You Care? The series has been all downhill since the first, but this could turn it around.

Tom Clancy’s HAWX (360, PS3, PC)
What Is It? Flight combat sim in the vein of Ace Combat.
Should You Care? Fans of an underpopulated genre have little choice really.

Trivial Pursuit (360, PS3, PS2, Wii)
What Is It? Follow-up to Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit where the cops chase you down for a broken tail-light.
Should You Care? I’m kidding.

World In Conflict: Soviet Assault (PC)
What Is It? Expansion pack for the recent real-time strategy game. Also available in a Complete Edition bundle.
Should You Care? If you liked World In Conflict, here’s a Soviet Assault of it.
