The Week In Games

After a few weeks of “blockbuster” 360 and PS3 releases, it’s now the turn of the DS. More precisely, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars. It might be the biggest name launching this week, but does the idea of a new GTA on Nintendo’s handheld appeal to you?

Elsewhere, the DS and Wii ports of Broken Sword should be worth a look, along with Puzzle Quest: Galactrix for PC, and Silent Hill: Homecoming finally sees a release after Konami removed the offending scenes that saw it banned late last year.

March 19

Armed Forces Corp (PC)
What Is It? Budget-priced military shooter.
Should You Care? This PR blurb says it all: “Traverse the murky depths of a sewer, infiltrate an office building to retrieve secret data, take the fight to the streets!”

Art of Murder: Hunt for the Puppeteer (PC)
What Is It? A “whodunnit?” style point & click adventure game.
Should You Care? There’s a superior point & click adventure game out this week…

Broken Sword (Wii, DS)
What Is It? Remake of the classic mid-90s, globe-trotting adventure.
Should You Care? I can’t vouch for the quality of the port, but the original game wove a cracking Da Vinci Code style story around dozens of clever puzzles.

Grand Ages: Rome (PC)
What Is It? Hardcore mix of real-time strategy and city-building sim from Germany.
Should You Care? Those suffering withdrawal since the demise of the Caesar series should check it out.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)
What Is It? It’s GTA. On DS.
Should You Care? If you want a GTA that returns to its top-down, action-oriented roots.

Guitar Hero On Tour: Decades (DS)
What Is It? The most effective way of getting hand cramp while playing your DS.
Should You Care? This isn’t a game suited to handheld play, trust me.

Imagine Doctor (DS)
What Is It? You know exactly what it is.
Should You Care? I guess we should be glad it’s not just Imagine Nurse.

The Last Remnant (PC)
What Is It? The latest Square Enix RPG to debut first on 360, now coming to PC.
Should You Care? You’ve probably played Fallout 3 to death by now, so you might be after a new RPG.

Monster Jam: Urban Assault (PS2)
What Is It? Cars with ridiculously over-sized wheels drive on top of other cars.
Should You Care? Nice present for a bogan birthday.

Onechanbara: Bikini Samurai Squad (360, PS3)
What Is It? Hack & slash combat where chicks in bikinis slice zombies with katanas.
Should You Care? If you can overlook a host of flaws, there’s some b-grade fun to be had.

Puzzle Quest: Galactrix (PC, DS)
What Is It? Space-bound follow-up to the, er… best match-three-RPG around.
Should You Care? Word is the PC plays host to the definitive version.

Resistance: Retribution (PSP)
What Is It? Palm-sized extension of Sony’s other core FPS franchise.
Should You Care? It’s hard to shake the feeling Resistance is better served on a PS3.

Scene It? Box Office Smash (360)
What Is It? Second in the series of movie trivia to transition to 360.
Should You Care? If you’re a film buff and a fan of novelty controllers.

Silent Hill: Homecoming (360, PS3, PC)
What Is It? The fifth cardinal Silent Hill game, re-edited to fit into an MA15+ category after originally being refused classification.
Should You Care? If the idea of a Silent Hill remix appeals.

SingStar Queen (PS3, PS2)
What Is It? Exactly what it says on the box.
Should You Care? If you’ve always wanted to know what the lyrics to Bohemian Rhapsody actually are.

SOCOM: Confrontation (PS3)
What Is It? Much-delayed disc release of the online, tactical shooter.
Should You Care? Is anyone going to be playing this over Killzone 2?

Trainz Simulator 2009: World Builder Edition (PC)
What Is It? The next step up the nerd ladder from being an air traffic controller in MS Flight Sim.
Should You Care? With MS Train Sim now defunct, this is the only option left for trainspotters.

World Sports Party (Wii)
What Is It? Mini-game collection featuring cricket.
Should You Care? I repeat: it’s got cricket.

WWE Legends of Wrestlemania (360, PS3)
What Is It? An opportunity for jokes about sweaty men beating each other about the ring.
Should You Care? Only if the above wasn’t funny.

You’re In The Movies (360)
What Is It? Blatant EyeToy rip-off, except with a silly movie trailer theme.
Should You Care? Well, you do get a free webcam for your console.
