While Wii Fit and Wii Play maintain their iron grip on the top two spots, Rockstar’s handheld GTA release has been upstaged by penguins.

Disney’s Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force, a game where you take on the role of a covert penguin agent who apparently enjoys snowboarding, has debuted at #3. Notably, only three games in this week’s top ten were actually released this year. Indeed, only two were released last year, while the remaining five are all at least 18 months old. Am I the only one who finds that depressing?

All Format Full-Priced Games Top 10 for the w/e April 19:

1. Wii Fit (Wii)
2. Wii Play (Wii)
3. Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force (DS)
4. Mario Kart (Wii)
5. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare GOTY Edition (360)
6. Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars (DS)
7. New Super Mario Bros. (DS)
8. Killzone 2 (PS3)
9. Mario Kart (DS)
10. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare GOTY Edition (PS3)

  • @Marcus: well that probably because there aren’t any really popular new games at the moment, Modern Warfare 2 will probably get into the top ten when it’s released in November, and there is a slim chance that Operation Flashpoint: DR might get in as well, but they’re a long way off now.
