Comparing Final Fantasy XIII Demo On HD TV And Analogue TV

Not all televisions are built the same. For kicks, Japanese site Intermezzo compared the Final Fantasy XIII Blu-ray PS3 demo on two televisions (one HD, one analog). Let's have a look.

One of the televisions was a US$200 model 14-inch Sony WEGA from the year 2000. It was connected to the PS3 with composite cables.

The other was a US$4,000 50-inch Pioneer plasma panel from 2006. It was connected to the PS3 with composite cables.

Wonder which one looks better...

Of course, the HD television! That's not the point, but rather, just how different the picture quality is.

Square Enix previously stated it was trying to make FFXIII playable on analogue televisions. While the demo is not the final retail version, it's concerning how difficult it is to read text on an analogue TV — that is, concerning to those who own these kind of televisions!

Another interesting comparison: Blu-ray Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete on a 50-inch HD TV, Blu-ray FFVII: ACC on a 14-inch analogue TV, and DVD Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children on a 14-inch analogue TV. There doesn't seem to be much difference between Blu-ray and DVD on analogue televisions.

Think of this as a not so subtle way to encourage you to buy an HD TV if you haven't already. Come on! Take the plunge. It's only US$4,000, and what's four grand when the global economy is in the toilet? Lots.

Yes - and the Pioneer Kuro used for the test is renowned for being one of the greatest televisions ever made (eclipsed only by the current 2009 model)

We should all have the joy of experiencing such quality... the TV, I'm not sure about the game ;)

have they done one showing how awesome Wii and PS2 games look on an HDTV?...

They did the comparison using composite (yellow, white, red) cables for both TV sets? That HD screenshot looks far too crisp to be using composite cables...

Nope, they are definatelly running it through composite cables, as it looks WAAAAAAAYYYYYYYYY better on my Pioneer KURO in 1080p :)

I'll jusy stick with my 22 inch computer monitor i have hooked to my ps3

well FFVII look great in my full-hd bravia 1 year old.
BOTH, the game and the movie.
i was really greatly surprised how good the standard definition look in my bravia, both games and tvs, i see other tvs in shops, full of ghosting, pixelating, etc. i may say it look better than in my old rear projection tv, that good.
did i mention i get my bravia XBR in just $800 brand new, yeah, envy from my friends is a constant everytime they come to my home for play or watch a sport event.

    p.d. ps3 with HDMI, ps2 with component
