Atari: 360, Wii, DS, PC Ghostbusters Coming In Spring

Atari Australia has confirmed they will be publishing the non-PlayStation versions of Ghostbusters later this year.

This morning we heard that Sony had snapped up publishing rights to the game across Europe and Australia, confirming a June 19 release on PS3, PS2 and PSP but throwing the launch of the Xbox 360, Wii, DS and PC versions of the game into doubt.

But it’s OK. Sort of. Says Atari:

“The release of the Xbox 360, PC, Wii and Nintendo DS versions of Ghostbusters: The Video Game will launch across Europe and PAL regions in Spring 2009. More information regarding the release of Ghostbusters: The Video Game for Xbox 360, Nintendo DS, Wii and PC will be made available in due course by Atari Inc.”

Anyone happy about this?

    • Considering Sony own the rights to the movie.

M$ are the king of dick moves. GTA4 exclusive content is the best example…

    • You can add it to the pile – which is still considerably smaller than the Microsoft one. How quick you forget the Fallout 3 and GTA IV DLC exclusivity when Sony do something similar…

      • A. Fallout 3 content for the PS3 isn’t exclusive – just like with Oblivion Sony were being the dicks towards Bethesda, especially in it’s release regions. Fallout 3’s 4 downloadable packs will be availiable on the PSN this month, with the 5th and final coming at the end of July on XBL as well.

        B. Rockstar made deal with M$. Straight up. Sony is just being a dick in regards to a Blu-Ray release schedule in these regions and trying to capitalise on thier sinking system.

        C. Sony had the exclusive rights on GTA San Andreas PS2. Xbox & PC players had to wait 3 months (I think) for thier release. But that didn’t hurt Rockstar (was never going to). However, if Ghostbusters sucks – and there’s always a possibilty of it being too short, having stupid trophy/achievments or general gayness – what happens when word of it’s (possible) suckyness spreads as the Wii’s, X360’s etc. release dates close in? Less sales. Activision loses. So I agree – Greedy-Dick move sony.

  • Well actually thats not to far off, I can wait… really its not a title that was way up their in the list of things I want (just on the list of things I want). So consider me calm about the issue, just a little ticked at the 11th hour notification of it; that type of shit doesn’t rest well with me as an all around gamer.

  • Business is about getting the leg up (and possibly urinating) on the opposition, and Microsoft has done it this whole generation. It’s about time Sony pissed back.

Downloadable content for Fallout 3 and Grand Theft Auto IV, arguably two of the largest games to be released across the PS3 and Xbox 360 last year, is locked to the Xbox 360. You can’t play it on PS3.

Sure, it might not be “fair” but there’s not really any point in bitching about it either. People who buy games get screwed all the time. Look at everyone bitching and moaning about DLC that may, or may not, include code that needs to be unlocked on the disc. Big deal. Either you pay for the DLC, or you don’t.

Sony should have stepped in with the dollars a while ago to secure some exclusive content, really, they owe it to owners of the PlayStation 3 who they’ve already let down with Fallout 3 and GTAIV.

Too bad they stepped up for a game that won’t have that big an impact.

  • I think all those fanboys killing themselves earlier owe Sony an apology. As usual; people didn’t get both sides of the story before jumping to conclusions. You can all put down the torches and pitchforks now.

  • I would also like to say that for all the people complaining about this, it’s not like it isn’t coming to ur system, the real dicky decision to cut off platforms has been made by microsoft, through and through thus far this generation. They created the market climate for dickhead exclusivity.

  • While I don’t approve of what Sony did, there seems to be a lot of complaining for what amounts to a delayed release of a game. When am I going to get my PS3 Fallout 3 or GTAIV DLC? Never, unfortunately.

  • Geeez, I wish everyone would stop complaining already. Considering that The Ghostbusters is a Sony (Columbia) IP, everyone should be glad that it’s not a Sony exclusive. Lets also remember that Atari have been having some “troubles” of late. For all we know Atari didn’t have the finances to cope and we’d have seen no release on any system in PAL regions.

  • DISCLAIMER: Uh, I’m not ignoring any dick moves made by Microsoft, Nintendo, Sega, Atari, Vivendi, Eidos, Ocean, Lucasarts or anyone else. This story is about something Sony did so that’s why I was talking about Sony. Microsoft & Nintendo are just as big as arses as Sony. Just cause other people have made dick moves doesn’t negate this dick move.

Either that, or I’m just still bitter about no PS3 price cut.

    Take your pick.

    • If all console makers are arses, what does that make you for playing their arse products?

And i thought only the US comments section suffered from retardedness.

  • Good for Sony – they get the early sales

Good for Atari – selling exclusivity nets them cash right up front regardless of sales

Bad for the majority of consumers – PSP and PS3 have the lowest install base in their prospective markets

I can see how this all makes business sense to the parties involved, that it screws over the majority of customers is fairly annoying though.

  • Echoing the other comments I’m not surprised about Sony pulling this one after all the exclusives Microsoft secures.

Likewise I wish they’d done it for GTA IV.
