AU Diary: War Never Changes

darksiderspc-2008-06-06-09-13-50-21The dark days continue. Fresh from checking out Capcom's Dark Void last Friday, I'm off now to play THQ's Darksiders.

Subtitled Wrath of War, Darksiders tells the tale of a post-apocalyptic Earth. Only thing is, the apocalypse arrived and a little early and... unexpectedly.

You play War, one of the four Horsemen of the Apocalypse, accused of bringing about the premature fire and brimstone.

Last I saw Darksiders was at E3 '08. Back then it resembled a gothic Zelda or perhaps a less linear God of War. Today I'll be finding out just how far it's progressed since then.

If you've got any questions, leave them in the comments and I'll do my best to answer them when I write up my impressions shortly.

Question - why have I never heard of this game before?

And how does playing as one of the Four Horsemen work? Am I supposed to know whether I'm really one of them or not? Hmm...

So its still coming out? I hadn't heard any news on this for months...

And I'd even heard it wasnt coming out here anymore..which disappointed me, since I've been psyched about this game since I first heard about it.

Hope to god its still on track for a release.

Will all of the Horsemen of the Apocalypse be dealt with in this title or will it be an over-arching story which will unfold (or perhaps even having you play as the other horsemen) throughout a trilogy/series of games?

Is the game still heavily focused around problem-solving and navigating labyrinths in a fashion similar to Zelda or has there been a move towards a more action-heavy game (as has been the trend in gaming recently)?
Would they be able to provide more details about the action vs problem-solving mix in Darksiders?

Will the game be relatively open-world or is progression in a more linear fashion?

Following on from the previous question, how will quests/stories unfold? Will it be reliant on exploration and discovery?
