Aussie Charts: Wolverine Claws Its Way In

Aussie Charts: Wolverine Claws Its Way In

Only two new entries into the top ten this week. Yep, it’s the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of Wolverine.

Although it’s no great surprise to see Game-Based-On-Popular-Movie leap into the charts, it’s once again interesting to see yet another multi-platform title perform better on PS3 than Xbox 360. What makes this trend quite strange is that I know Microsoft’s console has a significantly larger install base and its lead is growing every week.

So why are all these games selling better on PS3?

The rest of your chart is the usual mix of Wii Kart Penguin Training, plus a bit of Singstar for old time’s sake.

All Format Full-Priced Games Top 10 for the w/e May 3:

1. Wii Fit (Wii) 2. Wii Play (Wii) 3. Brain Training (DS) 4. More Brain Training (DS) 5. Mario Kart (Wii) 6. Club Penguin: Elite Penguin Force (DS) 7. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (PS3) 8. Singstar Queen (PS2) 9. X-Men Origins: Wolverine (360) 10. Killzone 2 (PS3)

  • The reason a game like Wolverine sells much better on PS3 is because the PS3 has less good games. Ask a 360 player what they will be doing this weekend and they will tell you “Halo Wars, Halo 3, Left 4 Dead, Gears 2” Why would you go out and buy an average at best Wolverine game. If I only owned a PS3 I might buy it.

    • Hey thats funny bill.

That would be why those games are still in the charts then right? oh wait, there are no 360 exclusives in the charts. What a shame. So these 360 exclusives that your talking about have been outsold by an average at best game. Well done.

    • Mate, Halo Wars may be a good example as it was release (relatively) recently, but as far as the other titles, it looks like you’ve simply listed your favorite 360 exclusives released to date. I could do the same with PS3, but I wont.
What I will do is offer that maybe PS3 owners are more tech savvy, have higher expendable income and are therefor more willing to buy new games on week of release.
David, do you guys publish the sales numbers here, I can’t recall seeing them. I take your word that the 360 has a lead, but my anecdotal evidence suggests otherwise — oddly
I only know one person with a 360 (it was a gift), and eight others with PS3s.

      • @Dean Longmore

Anecdotal evidence is trumped by official industry stats! 😉

Although I don’t have the latest GfK stats to hand, I can tell you that Microsoft sold its 500,000th Xbox 360 sometime in early January. While at the Sony event last week, Sony PR told me they were at about 420,000 PS3s. On top of that, I know the 360 consistently outsells the PS3 week-to-week, although not by a huge margin… that’s reserved for the Wii, which continues to blitz them both!

      • “have higher expendable income and are therefor more willing to buy new games on week of release.”

Can’t help but think of the saying “a fool and his money are soon parted…”, for some reason.

I don’t at all agree that PS3 owners are ‘more tech savvy’, though. Most I know (yes, that definitive yardstick) are Johnny Regulars who bought it because they owned a PS2, and therefore it was the natural thing to buy.

      • Well Dean, how about this anecdotal evidence – I know 2 people with PS3’s. On the other side, there’s about a dozen people that I lan with that all have 360’s, plus more that never comes to lans. So much for your evidence.

    • LOL I know. What games are PS3 players going to play? Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, PixelJunk Eden, Resistance 2, Valkyria Chronicles or a backlog of other excellent multi-platform titles?

      Oh wait…

  • Pffft, less good games on the ps3? and you just quote those 3 games to prove your point? About the only 1 that I’d say is quality is left 4 dead.

Please, stop talking out of your ass. This weekend I’ll be playing Wipeout HD, LBP, MGS4 and having some pps over for singstar. Maybe even some killzone online, havent been on for awhile. Yeah, there’s nothing worth playing on the ps3, NOTHING. I just HAVE to get wolverine, cause i can’t PLAY ANYTHING ELSE WHAT AM I TO DO! *head explodes*

On a side note, wolverine looks like quite a fun game, ill pick it up sometime, but right now i have too much to play on my PS3…

  • Can’t we all be friends? Facts are facts and sales are sales. I’ve owned a 360 from day one and a PS3 6 months after its release. I play my 360 more… what! I think that’s because it came out first and had a healthy online community. Then again MGS4, KZ2, LBP etc are games I couldn’t stand not playing so I brought a PS3. My point is, without ‘healthy’ competition these great exclusives to entice the consumers choice and boost console sales would not be backed by the bank balances of Sony or Microsoft. And when good (Wolverine) to great (Fallout 3) games get released on both systems we should appreciate they are selling no matter what console, as it only puts more money into the industry that we are passionate about.

    • I have an xbox 360 and a PS3 and i play on my pc the most :),But very Well said both consoles have some great exclusives.I find i play on the consoles about the same though i would probably play xbox 360 more if online was free.
