How Killzone 2's Patch Can Change Your Controls

While Killzone 2 made most PS3 owners happy, it couldn't please everyone. Some people, for example, hated the game's sluggish, "heavy" controls.

Never mind the fact these were mostly fixed by adjusting the controller sensitivity in the game's options menu. That was too hard for some people. So developers Guerilla Games are about to release a new patch for the game that, among some tweaks to matchmaking and skirmish mode, includes a new "High Precision" control scheme.

Guerilla's Eric Boltjes explains:

When this option is switched on, it makes the analogue sticks more responsive to small movements. Turned off, the controls behave exactly as they did before the patch. It's not a radical overhaul of the control system, so the layout and the ‘weight' of the controls remain the same.

Still, a lot of us here at Guerrilla really enjoy the new High Precision option, so we've decided to switch it on by default for new players. Existing Killzone 2 players will have the option turned off by default after patching – we wouldn't want to force a sudden change to the controls on you!

So if you like the existing controls, you keep them, if not, you can change 'em. Wonderful.

    Man, i gotta get off my ass and get this game ASAP.

    The sensitivity controls were useless since there was only one control for both movement and aiming. You either deal with sluggish movement, or hyper sensitive aiming.

    I for one welcome this patch and look forward to giving MP a 2nd chance.

    This will make it an even more enjoyable game. I don't own a PS3 but spent a weekend thrashing the crap out of multiplayer. I didn't care of the Campaign, 5 minutes into it and i was already bored personally.

    But yes, when i first played it, i immediately thought - this is why it isn't a Halo Killer & why can't they get something, 4 years in the making RIGHT WITH THE CONTROLS. After tweaking them i got it right - but this will definitely make it more enjoyable and easier to play for newcomers!

    Or - maybe developers should just create their games so that gamers can choose their own controls. Let them have Y as Shoot or Left Bumper as melee.

    Certain games fit certain controls. And developers don't always get it right. Controls like CoD4 & Halo are perfect for FPS (although i prefer the Left Bumper aim with CoD than Halo now).

    I just don't see why they can't develop a control system that allows the gamers to choose their own. I mean, c'mon!

      i havent played killzone 2 but i dont think the issue is what buttons do what. Im pretty sure the right trigger is shoot.

      i think the problem is that you get the sensation of sluggishness in movement and aiming, or if you tweak the controls yourself the aiming becomes too hard to control.

      I imagine it's very similar to far cry 2 on consoles. The controls in that games are absolutely crazy. Sluggish/heavy movement (no problem there) but this weird acceleration when you turn.

        I have played it - what you are saying, like everyone is the the MAJOR flaw in the games controls. I should have mentioned that. But i had a problem with the button layout myself.

        I personally don't like the Playstation Controller. I believe the Xbox 360 controller is perfect for a console. The PS Controller is too small and just a mess with the layout. It's almost as if some dude with OCD with symmetrical things designed the thing, didn't test it & Sony smiled and nod there heads in amazement and went along with it.

        But like others are saying. They didn't include the option to change the deadzone and acceleration only the sensitivity. If they develop their games to include that sort of option & button layout, there would be no problem at all with gamers and their frustration with gameplay controls.

    This is a start. as a multi-console owner who spends the majority of FPS time on the 360, using the PS3 analogue sticks is bad enough without having a massive deadzone like killzone 2 has.

    next up, try and eliminate that quarter of a second of input lag and i might play the game again.

    You have no idea what your talking about do you.
    It wasn't the sensitivity that was the problem.
    It's the deadzone.
    The 1st patch was said to of helped this,but it didn't.
    Which was when i traded it.
    I will be good to hear if this new patch does fix the terrible deadzone.

    Have you even played Killzone? The sensitivity wasn't the problem, it was the huge deadzone and accelleration on the input. There was no option to adjust either of those issues.
