Gearbox Honcho Wants Something Different From Halo Developer

Randy Pitchford, the outspoken boss of developer Gearbox, has something to say about Halo developer Bungie. Not just Bungie, he also has something to say about Modern Warfare developer Infinity Ward.

"I keep waiting to hear what Bungie is going to do that's not Halo," Pitchford told game site "Those guys are amazing, right? They walk on water! And the same with Infinity Ward. It's like, dude I'm totally psyched to get my Call of Duty fix every year, but you guys are amazing! What else have you got? Can you give me something I haven't seen before?"

Maybe Bungie want to make other games and maybe they're making them right now, but can't say anything about them because the developer has its hands full with Halo 3: ODST? Maybe Infinity Ward is following up a smash hit with a back-to-back sequel? Patience, dear Randy, patience!

To Gearbox's credit, the studio does churn out a wide variety to titles in different genres for various platforms. Not every developer has that kind of freedom or is even willing to take those sorts of risks.

WELL with the announcement for Halo: Reach and its supposed 2010 release date coming, i doubt Bungie are hard at work on another game thats NOT Halo-related.

Each Halo game has had minimum 3 years development and who knows how long Reach has been in development for. There was speculation of such a game until E3 - so it was a pleasant surprise. So lets say they started developing last year, mid 2008 after Halo 3's release etc.. thats only around 2 or so years. They'd be more focused on Reach than another game and i don't think Bungie have the staff to work on two things, full throttle, at once.

Bungie are the type of team who work as a team, all of them, to get the game perfect. This is why Halo works!

But i agree that they should work on something else. Showcase some more talent!

I dont think the world could ever have enough Halo. Perhaps what they should do is make a peripheral like Mr Hawk.
Big ol attatchments that act like arms so as to simulate actually holding the weapon.
They could also hold you and comfort you on cold nights... cos the Lan has gotta end sometime...

"Halo Reach-Around"? Great. You've just ruined it for me forever.

come on, how could you not come up with that?

Geez, didn't he ever play Oni? Well that was about a decade ago, I'm sure he's forgotten it by now. So play it again, and pretend it's a new game!
