Microsoft Boss Apologizes For Poorly Chosen Words

Late last week, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer stated that the new Xbox with a "natural interface" would be arriving in 2010. Microsoft spent the rest of the week putting out fires, saying that Ballmer was mistaken.

Microsoft's Director of Product Management for Xbox 360 and Xbox Live Aaron Greenberg told Kotaku "There will be no new console."

"We're not going to be launching a new console any time soon," Greenberg said during a phone call today. "I really believe he was speaking about Project Natal."

Ballmer has clarified his comment to IGN, stating, "I confused the issue with my poorly chosen words. There is no news in my comments. Things are as reported after E3. Sorry."

When Steve Ballmer mucks up, does someone else yell at him for mucking up or does Steve Ballmer just yell at himself? Who knows, maybe there's quiet time.

Ballmer Clarifies His 'New' Xbox 360 Comment [IGN via EDGE]

Its clearly a new console, this is what they did to the original Xbox, the 360 will follow suit to become redundant.

plmko I disagree, considering the economy and the amount of investment in the XBOX 360 console by Microsoft I think it's obvious they will want to delay the release of a new console for as long as possible.

I'd expect this console generation to be longer than any other thus far, besides the XBOX 360 appears to have a lot of juice left it in from a development perspective.

Gee.. you'd think that the CEO of Microsoft could afford to buy some anti-perspirant or maybe a spong shirt.

I hope the new console is water proof!

My bet i the new 360 is coming out next year, but of course m$ won't tell people that, because then they would hold off buying a 360 until the new model is released. It'll most likely be a similar case to what nintendo did with the wii (soup up a gamecube, add motion controls).
