Miyamoto: Super Mario Galaxy 2 Will Have 90% New Levels

Nintendo's legendary designer Shigeru Miyamoto sat down with Kotaku to talk about Nintendo's biggest projects and shared some details on the newly announce Super Mario Galaxy.

"For the most part up until now on a single console we haven't made two games in a single franchise," Miyamoto said. "But when we first made Super Mario Galaxy for Wii it was the first time we really experimented with the spherical worlds. We had a lot of things we were interested in doing and a lot of creative freedom that we had in that world that we were interested [in doing] ."

Miyamoto said that the original plan was to "essentially create new variations of the worlds in Super Mario Galaxy." But, over time, the developers have had so many ideas that Miyamoto estimates that 90% of the game's levels are all knew. The rest, he said, are levels from the original Mario Galaxy with different objectives.

The controls haven't changed, but Mario's been given new abilities via the addition of Yoshii and a drill item. Miyamoto also told Kotaku that "there's something that might be kind of a little bit ghost like but still a little different."

As the project is not going to be released until next year, Mr. Miyamoto said he wanted to talk more about Super Mario Brothers for the Wii. We'll have more on that later.

You'd think it would be 100% but whatever :|
Will the game be priced 10% less? Fukn' doubt it.

    I'm calling it first, folks.

You get to play as yoshi as player 2. At least, it would be nice.

More like... the Wii actually was something that people liked and bought. Something that had hope & longevity. NOT the Gamecube or (bless that console) the Nintendo 64.

The 64 was awesome. I love it. Probably the best console - but the Gamecube was just, well the Gamecube. So meaning SHIT.

It sold crap, didn't have very interesting games. So the Wii really was lucky for Nintendo and has longevity, something a Nintendo console hasn't really had much luck with. THAT'S why they are releasing a sequel to a franchise on the same console.

      Oh forgot to add.

Maybe also because a lot of the games on the Wii aren't selling like games on the 64.

The 64 has some of the best selling titles. I remember reading an article saying how there aren't as many Wii games even selling over a million. It's only games like Wii Fit, Galaxy, Smash Bros., Mario Kart Wii. THOSE games.
