Bungie Says It's 'Close' To Signing New IP Deal

Earlier this week, Bungie's Lars Bakken strongly implied that Halo: Reach would be the last Bungie-made Halo title. Bakken now suggests that the studio is close to getting a publisher for its new, non-Halo IP.

Says Bakken to Eurogamer:

I think internally we'll know sometime soon. I don't handle these things, but I'd imagine we're going to know way before we make the public announcement of who's handling that! But sure, I think those talks are, I guess, close.

This project has been ongoing for more than a year; little is known about what it entails, other than Bungie isn't constrained to a specific platform for its new IP. But a good guess would be some sort of multiplayer shooter. Stick with what you know, right?

New Bungie IP Deal 'Close' [Eurogamer]

I'd like to see a third-person from them. I do prefer FPS, but i reckon that could work. Gears works better with Third cause of the environment, the characters & the cover system.

I reckon Bungie could give i a crack. But obviously they have made their choice, shooting or not, so when i say, give it a crack i mean, in later games.

WE obviously don't know ANYTHING about this new game. Development time, when it will be ready. Halo: Reach was only announced less than 3 months ago and already has a release for next year. I believe it has at least close to the past 12 months to be developed. Bungie games have some time spent on them.

So i imagine, if its been in development for 12 months and it so far isnt penciled in for a 2010 release, then thats at least 2 & a half years for the game so far. So it could have a 2010 Holiday release or Early 2011. But Bungie tradition in the years has been September-Nov releases.

We also wouldn't know if the PS3 would be a console choice or the 360 for that matter until a trailer of some sort or announcement. But i would imagine the 360 to be one, they know it too well. Undecided on the PS3 considering they never have developed on it and we haven't heard of them hiring anyone with PS3 experience. If so, it is THAT secret!

I'd assume that Microsoft would do anything to influence Bungie to keep designing games for them and not their competitors. Either that or Microsoft feel that they only need the Halo franchise, and bungie can go off where ever.
