Dragon Quest Still Doing Wonders For DSi Sales In Japan

Video game hardware sales in Japan are so hot right now, thanks to big spending on Nintendo DSi hardware. This week's figure may not be as impressive as Dragon Quest IX's launch week, but still good news for Nintendo.

The ratio is about the same, with the DSi outselling every other platform combined by a healthy margin. The news isn't as good for the less than 25% of the chart that's not Nintendo hardware, but at least PSP sales are still pumpin'.

Shame about that Xbox 360. Has Microsoft used up all its Japanese role-playing game exclusive funding?

  • Nintendo DSi - 96,986
  • PSP - 24,053
  • Wii - 20,807
  • Nintendo DS Lite - 9,932
  • PlayStation 3 - 8,865
  • PlayStation 2 - 3,352
  • Xbox 360 - 2,899

Shame bout the 360? Ugh, the PS3 isn't producing crash hot numbers neither.

Not defending the 360 here, i understand the 360 is a massive bomb in Japan. But so far, the PS3 isn't selling very well there either. And not everywhere also, except Europe kinda.

Not gonna say it deserves a price-drop cause i'm kinda against the idea cause Sonys strategies may not be working to their full extent, is working so that they're not losing that much money.

On topic of MS & Exclusives, it seems so. A lot of people trash them for doing so, but exclusives is what makes Nintendo too. If Mario was on Xbox or PS3 - the Wii wouldn't be so successful. I think MS are holding off for a Blue Dragon 2 or something. Final Fantasy is definitely a game that would product a lot more numbers, if MS were able to get a timed exclusive in Japan, that would have helped them alot, but obviously that isn't going to be the case.

Ah well, its really the Japs that are missing out. I know they have the PS3 but the Wii is still in the lead there. So there not really getting the most game experience if they aren't touching that either. They're so weird with their JPRGs and Wii Fit. Like open wide and realize that the games you do play, aren't that good!
