Sony Considered Two Analog Sticks For PSPgo

Like its predecessor, the PSPgo has one analogue stick. But, did you know Sony once considered putting two analogue sticks on the upcoming portable?

In the new issue of Game Informer, Sony Worldwide Studios President Shuhei Yoshida says as much:

We also felt — like many users — that we wish we had a second analogue on the PSP. But we are talking about the mid-life cycle of this platform, and the PSPgo is designed to be perfectly compatible with the PSP-3000 and all the games that released before that. So we had a very serious discussion about this particular subject, but we decided not to add a second analogue, and some of the developers are doing quite a nice job translating the second analogue functionality to different buttons. We didn't want to divert their efforts either.

So put it in a totally new PSP platform? Yes, yes, do that.

The developers were only working with the limited options given! In a lot of games they just used the right hand buttons like awkward directional keys to make up for the lack of a second stick.

    Hey, fantastic news item.

I have another scoope for you:
"Company considers alternative designes for new product, states the choice they made was the best one to make."
