   I bend myself into an L shape and freeze myself in the freezer to play tetris and get in the right zone.
   But seriously, I remember getting up at 3am, no house heating on, in the middle of winter, just to play commander keen and complete it as I had beened banned from the pc for doing something stupid.

   Oh, and back on Liberty Island near the end of Deus Ex. There’s nothing to indicate it’s cold, except it being at night near the ocean, and JC probably doesn’t feel cold, but I felt that way …

   The recent MGS did a pretty reasonable job… the battle with Crying Wolf, almost impossible to see a few metres in front of you…

      MGS4’s snow level was great, I reckon. Crawling through the snow past the patrolling geckos was brilliant.

   When I think of winter, snow and cold in games the ice levels from Super Mario 64 are the first thing that pop into my mind. Cute penguins, a monsterous ice slide, giant snowmen and much more captured the frigid, wintery lands. The little touches such as getting stuck in the snow when falling from high up or the way Mario rubbed his hands together to try and keep warm when left alone really helped in making it memorable.

   Coincidentally I’m playing through Operation Anchorage right now, sooo…it’s cold, snowy and has blizzard-like conditions. How appropriate to this post!

   the great glacier part in FF7. you had to warm yourself up every 30 seconds or so and you could easily get lost. it felt like you were really stuck out in the cold.

   The snow maps for Warcraft 2. Even the buildings had separate sprites to look covered in snow.

   The first one that pops into my head as winter bits in games is Kings Quest 5. If I recall you needed your coat or you would die of cold.

   Also, No One Lives Forever 2! You used a snowmobile to get around at bit. Like most of the game, it was tops!

    Just The Thing as a movie did that for me already haha. But yeah I would say ‘The Thing’ too, just because it was the last game I ever played which was full on -30c 😉

    Best winter game? Well it may not be in this star system but Lost Planet is by far the best ‘cold game’ for me. Also giant insects with glowing weak spots, thats awesome too!

    Descent, one of the first games with a wintery environment (once you got outside)

    I was so addicted to the shareware as I’m sure many other kids at that time were!
