Why No Splinter Cell On PS3? It's A "Business Decision"

Sometimes, a developer or publisher chooses not to release a game on the PS3 for manpower or technical reasons (see: Valve). Other times, though - as is the case with Splinter Cell: Conviction - it's just down to money.

In an interview with Kikizo, Ubisoft's Steven Masters has completely gone against previous Ubisoft comments on the matter and been refreshingly frank, saying the real reason the game won't be appearing on Sony's console has nothing to do with his development team, and everything to do with the suits upstairs:

Ubisoft as a company now has a lot of experience with PS3. Our processes, tools, techniques are very well-developed - we could absolutely execute on the PS3 if we had the opportunity, but like I said it was a business decision.

A "link of heart" my arse. You know, in five year's time, I'd love to see just how much Microsoft spent on securing all these "exclusives".

well I'm glad he at least told us why... basically they can't make enough money if they make it for the PS3, fair enough in my opinion :| I blame Sony, not Ubisoft :|

lol! Damn right... personally I'd love to see it on PS3. Either this is just a really bad joke or publicity stunt by Ubisoft to stir up some talk about the game or they really do believe there is a "link of heart". But I too think its a load of crap, what's really happened is Microsoft have driven up to their head office with $1,000,000, x4 fruit boxes, a XXL pack of Skittles and a contract in hand - "here, sign this."

OR it is due to the fact that their sale's may be tipped in a way UBI doesn't see a big enough profit margin (see Activion's response to sony)

Are you guys stupid. Of corse its an exclusive via money. Anyone who would think otherwise has rocks in there head.

The game will sell better on the 360 even if it was on the PS3. So it makes sense Ubisoft would make this deal & for MS to offer it to get more sales on the 360 by people buying it for the 360 who own a PS3 aswell. I wouldn't say this is gonna sell 360's off the shelf, but Splinter Cell is highly popular.

All i know is, MS are spending there money right with these exclusives. People may criticize it or say they're wasting there money. But at least they are "wasting their money" on decent games that will sell and make a lot of sense. I can't say the same for Sony though... i mean, Ghostbusters? C'mon and ONLY in PAL regions. That was poor effort, maybe the recession is really hitting Sony right now...

this is the number 1 reason i bought a 360... and FLASHED IT! These companies aren't looking at the big picture here. There are millions of PS2 users out there who WILL upgrade to a PS3. I think it's about time Sony looked at the big picture too and dumped the PS2. Stop selling it, stop the release of games on it and force them to upgrade. Yes "some" will cross over to the "dark side" but most will jump onboard the PS3 train. This is when all these companies will start developing exclusive for the PS3 and start ignoring the 360 or, giving it the pathetically developed ports that PS3 owners have had to put up with. Not 1 game has come close to utilising the full power of the PS3 yet. It has so much to offer but devs are lazy.

"Not 1 game has come close to utilising the full power of the PS3 yet. It has so much to offer but devs are lazy."

Sorry but that's bs. PS3 is overcomplicated, 7 SPE's and no-one knows how to sync them on multi level PP tasks.
Microsoft really handed Sony it's balls when they secured Cell's PP core from IBM and triplicated it then went on to develop a superior development suite.
At the same time Sony realised a single Cell CPU wasnt going to cut the mustard and ran to nVidia for a mid-spec off-the-shelf GPU.

Sony screwed up with PS3 and fanbois blame the devs.
