Aussie Charts: Cricket Beats Some Yank Sport

Aussie Charts: Cricket Beats Some Yank Sport

The “tenth” edition of John Madden’s NFL football game made it into the all formats top ten last week. Yes, I’m serious.

It didn’t manage to trouble Codemaster’s Ashes Cricket, which saw the delayed Xbox 360 version join its PS3 brethren near the top of the list. But still, I think EA can be proud that some of us bought a game about a sport that most of us don’t care about.

Wii Sports Resort, predictably, remains at number one, having now sold over 100,000 copies since launch.

All Format Full-Priced Games Top 10 for the w/e August 16:

1. Wii Sports Resort (Wii)
2. Wii Fit (Wii)
3. Ashes Cricket 2009 (PS3)
4. Wii Play (Wii)
5. Ashes Cricket 2009 (360)
6. Mario Kart (Wii)
7. The Sims 3 (PC)
8. Brain Training (DS)
9. Madden NFL 10 (PS3)
10. Madden NFL 10 (360)

  • Why….do people buy those sports games…. why. They are THE SAME as last year but with new rosters! WTF! And those cricket games… god.

    • So sick of people saying this bullcrap.

People buy these games because you’re completely misinformed about them.

They haven’t been as you described for a number of years, and if you were a REAL gamer and played any type of game, rather than sticking to whatever you play (I’m NOT going to stereotype you unlike you’ve stereotyped sports games), you’d actually know this.

  • Well i have a few friends that only buy sports games. When i ask them why they do it year after year, they ask me why i bought resident evil 5 when i had 4, and street fighter 4 when i had third strike on the ps2, or why the hell people buy halo3 when its the same as halo2.

At least thats what i imagine theyd say because my friends dont play games lol.

  • Cricket is a great game, for cricket fans. And the last one came out in ’06, and is way too dated to play now, i’m glad they made another one and would be happy if they were yearly anyway..

  • Cricket is the most awful, boring sport on the face of the planet. Next to lawn bowls or golf. Why anyone would pay 80-100 dollars to sit there and play it digitally when it’s something they can do in their backyard is beyond me.

“Oh but why do you buy racing games then? You can drive a car in real life!”

Yes but I can’t race legally and I most certainly can’t race an Audi R10 TDI, so that’s why I buy racing games.

    • Neither can I face the greatest bowlers in the world, nor hit a six at Lords, nor play in my backyard because I don’t have 22 yards of usable space and would never allow a leather-wrapped cork ball to go flying at speed near my property.

Deriding those who play a particular genre of sports game because you don’t understand the sport only uncovers your own ignorance and adds nothing useful to any discussion whatsoever.

  • i am one of many who bought madden

This years madden represents one of the biggest improvements and changes to the game in years. Deserves its spot.

Agreed that sports games in general is new rosters but this years madden is far from that.

  • Well Cricket games have an excuse because firstly they don’t come out every year and secondly they are usually plagued by bugs that come with low budget games. So a new edition is a good thing.
