Brütal Legend Makes A Brütal Offer

Oh, Brütal Legend. We thought you were going to be different. You're a rebel. You're rokken. You're not supposed to be... corporate. So why are you doing this cheesy pay-for-access-to-the-demo thing that other pinhead games started?

Reader Crashbanito, and others signed up on the Brütal Legend email, got word this morning that pre-ordering the game through GameStop gets you early access to the demo. You also get a special in-game guitar which probably does nothing but looks cool.

Sigh. Well, OK, I'm probably still gonna hook myself up with this, but early demo access is now getting kind of abusive. I know it's only $US5, and it's technically part of the cost I'm paying for the game. But I'm gonna wait on it out of principle.

The offer's on the front of the Brütal Legend site if you're interested.

Kotaku AU Note: I'll check in with EA today to find out if this is happening here too.

It's probably EA, not DoubleFine that set that up.

Yeah, Doublefine are just making the game, it's EA who are doing all the selling.

Whatever helps Doublefine sell more copies, they really deserve some cash imo.

GameStop in the US, EB Games here. I think I'll be buying it elsewhere anyway, since the pre-order bonus isn't worth the extra money, and let's face it; demos are pointless when you know you're already getting the full game.

If developers had any sense, they'd be releasing the demo for the people that aren't interested in pre-ordering it, that way they might boost sales from people that play the demo and enjoy it enough to want to buy it upon its release. But hey, if they want to hinder their own sales, I'm all for it.

What extra cost? Don't be a fool. Pre-order it from EB, get your exclusive bonus and then get them to match prices with JB or whoever is cheapest. I get no greater pleasure than making EB knock 20-30 off their overpriced games.

The demo will become free after release no doubt?
I guess this is a way to encourage people to preorder without costing them a cent..
They have to make the demo anyway.. this way, the demo becomes "exclusive content" for pre-orderers, thereby making a preorder more "tempting"... thereby potentially increasing the launch date sales..
Personally I think it's a rubbish concept.. I'm with Goraxium.. a demo is supposed to suck people into buying the game!
