Bungie Won't Say If Halo: Reach Is The Studio's Last Halo

Last month, Bungie senior designer Lars Bakken said that Halo: Reach would be the studio's last Halo title. "In terms of Bungie-produced Halo games," the designer stated, "ODST and then Reach is probably all you're going to get."

Microsoft subsidiary 343 Industries is poised to take over the series after the release of first-person-shooter Halo: Reach.

Bungie is back tracking on Bakken's remark and has deployed community and pr director Brian Jarrard to clean up what the senior designer has stated.

"The clarification is we just don't know at this point. I'm not really able to speculate on what we're going to do after Reach," Jarrard told website VideoGamer.com. "I wouldn't confirm or deny at this point. We're really excited to get Reach out the door. Beyond that, we're not at liberty to say right now what's next."

But...

"I think there's a lot of work just to get Reach done between now and next fall. At that point anything's possible. We're going to keep looking at making the games we want to make. Maybe that's Halo. Maybe it's not. We'll have to wait and see."

Maybe that's Halo. Maybe it's not. Maybe today I will eat a ham sandwich. Maybe I won't. You'll have to wait and see.

in other words, we have no future Halo related projects on the cards, halo's IP owner has opened their own studio to handle halo from here on out, Brakken was spot on but we would never admit it because that would make us look bad.

by not discounting future work on our best selling and realistically, only, IP we can dodge the question of what is bungie without halo?

      Nah, Bungie's not like that.
Besides, "what is Bungie without Halo?" Bungie's made some awesome games (i.e. non-Halo games) and has said that they're working other games today (i.e. non-Halo games) and have spawned two spin-off companies that have worked on their own games (i.e. non-Halo games), as well having as a community that doesn't only centre itself not only around Halo but other things as well (i.e. non-Halo games).

Cannot imagine why Bungie or their stakeholders would want to stop producing the series. It is a goldmine for them.

Granted, they might want to move into different areas, but limit your revenue, limit your opportunities.

"Cannot imagine why Bungie or their stakeholders would want to stop producing the series. It is a goldmine for them."

It's because they have to produce Halo products under the control of Microsoft. The relationship has soured, with Bungie believing that Microsoft have exerted too much control.

The "stakeholders" at Bungie are like anyone else: money is all well and good, but independence is valuable too. Working for a giant multinational corporation who can call the shots on everything, is not everyone's cup of tea.

        WRONG!

MS own the rights to Halo. A Big mistake on Bungies side after going independant.

Bungie are stupid if they think, well lets just go indie again, sell our Halo rights & move on. Halo is there child, and yes, there goldmine! They should be proud of it, which i'm sure they are. But don't just give up, just take a break.

MS & Bungies relationship ends at Halo: Reach. its the last game they have to make under there contract and they're officially free from MS in terms of what they have to develop.

But, i want more Halo games. Not like a Mario franchise. I just hope MS are smart in there Halo choices and limit the number of games that are created for Halo and give Bungie some space before approaching for a new Halo game.

Just stick with this cartoon series and what not, but throw out Reach and some DLC. That will keep Halo is the talks for 2010 and 2011. Then by that time, Bungie will release there NEW-IP and maybe 2013 release a new Halo game BY Bungie.

MS will eff Halo up cause fans know it won't be dev. by Bungie and they will avoid it. I'm not referring to Halo Wars cause thats on a totally different level. But they WONT get the sales on a Halo FPS or TPS thats not dev. by Bungie.

I really feel sorry for the actual developers of bungie. I'm guessing that even they must be getting sick of making Halo games yet the shareholders and people who control the money will always demand more.

I hope it is Bungie's last Halo game...

I wish it will be THE last Halo game (but i know thats not going to happen)...

I do know however, that i will not be buying any Halo games not by Bungie. I didn't buy Halo Wars partially because of this reason, also because of M$ breaking up ensemble studios, partially because it was a weak attempt at an RTS game.

But I won't be buying any non Bungie Halo games in the future.

    Cheers

Make a sequel to Oni. That game was the true shit.
