EA Looking At Classic Bullfrog Titles, Though Not For "Remakes"

Some of you may be too young to remember this, but back in the mid-90's, Bullfrog were kings. Theme Park, Magic Carpet, Syndicate... everything Peter Molyneux's former studio released turned to gold.

But then Bullfrog were sold to EA. And Molyneux went off and formed Lionhead. And... all people were left with was an innate desire to complain to publishers about how there should be remake upon remake of Bullfrog's classic titles.

Complaints that EA - who hold the rights to Bullfrog's back catalogue - have heard. EA's Harvey Elliot has told Kikizo that many of those old games are worth a second look:

If you remember all the old classics you played, if you go back and play them now, they're not the same. They were right for their time, and the trick with those games is coming up with what's right for the time now. I'm going to look at them at some point, I think there's an opportunity to bring those back in the future, but only if it's right for the time and not just a 'remake' or something. We'd need to do it in a way that's true to the original values, but would still make a great game today.

Know what would make Syndicate great today? Take the original Syndicate, put it in a new box and sell it.

Why there's hope for Bullfrog IP returning [Kikizo]

Dungone Keeper is the best game ever made, this had better mean dungeon keeper three will finaly come out, I've been waiting ever since the ending cinematic of number 2.

    - Has already been done on the PSN (with Syndicate Wars at least). SW was a fantastic game, amd introducted me to a darker sci-fi. I'm positive a spiritual successor would be loved by many.

Syndicate Wars isn't bad, but it's still not as good as the original.

    Theme Hospital!

I just reinstalled Theme Hospital and played it for hours and hours... I have to say, it stands up pretty well, and its still a better game than a lot of the stuff that is coming out today.

I actually played Syndicate Wars before Syndicate, but anyway, I loved both games. When I first played Syndicate Wars I was absolutely blown away at the freedom and level of destruction available to you. And I must've watched that intro movie a billion times in a row... (even though it's utterly awful now)

How bout a single/multi Magic Carpet? I bet that it could almost be done on a multi platform basis and I personally have always been hanging out for another magic carpet ride! Seriously though, I do hope Bullfrog do read forums like these becos some of the above mentioned games deserved to be rethought again with some new twists!

Wow. I like the idea of a modern Syndicate game made with a similar engine to Battalion Wars (GameCube). It sounds strange, but after you think about the possibilities for a while it actually starts to make more sense than a typical RTS format.

Sydnicate. Do not mutilate the formula. Keep it grass roots. Take the classic Syndicate, roll it in a new engine, add environment destruction.

Theme Hospital still has legs also... hell bugger it! Pretty much all the Bullfrog catalogue has legs!

*cues ZZ Top - She's got legs*

Damn, news title got my hopes up for Dungeon Keeper 3 for a while... =(

Have been waiting for the sequel ever since I saw the horned Reaper walked into the sunlight all those years ago..

    I am with Ben.
I am hoping its Dungeon Keeper also.
I totally loved this game, in fact, I will still be playing it if it didn't stop working properly after I upgrade to my HD4870 GPU.

Its got to be Dungeon Keeper because I KNOW the gaming gods love me. haha!!

I'm with you guys, just give me a graphics update of Syndicate, keep the rest pretty much the same. Man I love that game.
