Final Fantasy XIII To Ship On "About" Three DVDs On Xbox

Square Enix's long in the making Japanese RPG epic Final Fantasy XIII is...well, epic. It's going to be huge, expanding beyond the confines of your standard Xbox 360 game disc. Possibly on three (possibly more) DVDs when it ships.

Final Fantasy XIII director Motomu Toriyama said during our Q&A session today that, while the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game will be identical in content, Xbox 360 owners will at some point have to get up off the couch. He said to expect "about" three discs' worth of content, when all is said and done.

Toriyama says that we should expect about 40 to 50 hours worth of gameplay for the main quest, so a minute or two dedicated to ejecting, swapping and reloading probably won't mean much in the long run. Perhaps a sandwich could be made during this time period?

What won't be on the disc(s) for either version will be the native Japanese language track, unless you're buying the Japanese version. Anyone hoping for a dual-language voice over option will be sorely disappointed.

Toriyama also indicated that the team is still working on compressing the game's data—and that the game isn't yet complete—so plans may change.

We'll have more from our sit-down with Final Fantasy XIII's producer and director soon.

Funny, companies in the past have always used space as the reason for this; "two audio tracks won't fit on a DVD". So much for the 'advantage' of blu ray...

No Advantage of blu ray? Instead of been 3 or more discs... its only 1... I call that an advantage =P

Seriously though, as long as its like the older final fantasies on the PS1 where they came on 3 or 4 discs and you only had to change the disc part way through the story, that will be fine.

If you had to change the discs constantly as you travel around the map... that would be very annoying!!

that's because square enix want ps3 and 360 to be equivalent in content.

therefore the 360 is disadvantaging ps3 by not including jap on ps3 blu ray when they can include it......

so much for the "360" advantage.

Changing discs is nostalgic. Wish i had a 360 :p

HEHE! The good ol' days .... *sigh*

My disc changing days are over... seriously, changing floppies on the ol' Amiga with up to 11 floppies... AGHHHHHH! I JUST WANT TO PLAY DAM IT!!! =)

    Another Final Fantasy? O_O

Why have so many disks when they can make use of the hard drive?

The problem I have with multiple disks is significant portions of each disk are taken up by content covered in the earlier disks.

lost odyssey had 4 discs,i didnt enjoy it any less.i dont care if its not getting jap voice overs either,i cant understand it so the storey wud be lost on me hehe.
