Kojima: Metal Gear Solid Rising, Peace Walker Teams Not So Friendly

Based on Metal Gear series creator Hideo Kojima's comments about the two teams working on Metal Gear Solid: Rising and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, we're guessing Kojima Productions is home to daily office brawls between the two.

Kojima tells Gamepro that the two teams have a sort of rivalry going on as each title is developed. Why? It's a simple snobs versus slobs situation, with one team—the Peace Walker fellas—getting the short end of the stick when it comes to money and hardware specs.

Obviously the PSP can't make the technical prowess of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but that apparently hasn't stopped some corporate bad blood between the two Metal Gear Solid teams. Kojima goes far enough to say the teams are "not good friends." Why do you say that Kojima?

"The reason why I say they are not good friends is because the PSP is working day and night to make it even better than MGS4, but of course they can't do it because of a lot of restrictions," he tells Gamepro. "On the other hand, the Rising team is using loads of money and loads of capacity and hardware specs."

So, while the Rising guys and gals are pissing away yen like its their job, lighting Cuban cigars with 10,000 yen notes while the Peace Walker team searches for crusts of bread in the Kojima Productions kitchenette to survive. Or at least that's how we're envisioning it. They're probably just not holding the door for the Rising guys on the way into the office sometimes. Or bowing at an angle one degree higher.

My version of this rivalry is better.

    Okay this dude is a douche. Who comes out to the press to reveal this sorta crap. That's just plain stupid. He's probably lying.

    And of corse a PSP title isn't going to have a higher or on par budget as a 360 & PS3 title. Are they stupid. It will sell more first on the 360 & PS3 than what the PSP title will in a month.

    Obviously the Peace Walker dev's don't know what game there product is going to be on.

      I wouldn't take his comment seriously, and you're taking it waaaay too sensitively.

      I don't know where in the world you are, but in the commuter societies of Asia such as Japan, Hong Kong, and Singapore, everyone and their grandma has a PSP. If you look at sales of the top games such as Monster Hunter, Phantasy Star, and any Gundam game, you'll understand that the PSP is holding it's own against the higher-end consoles. To call Kojima a douche for joking around is a pretty immature and defensive comment, it's almost like you want to validate the consoles because you don't have a psp? Geez.

    Kotaku is passing this information on like eveyone else. This wasn't an exclusive for Kotaku, everyone is talking about it. Its really no big deal. I'd be a little bummed if my bosses cut my spending budget but still asked for a blockbuster. Even still, developing for a handheld can be fun, because they can concentrate on gameplay and story versus graphics and graphics... Loved MGS4 btw.

    Be interesting how peace walker can take ages to finish.

    I'm on my 2nd runthrough of portable ops (to get 99 mechanic and medic, to unlock special items) and i'm currently up to 24 hours.
