Assassin's Creed III? WWII? Sure, Why Not?

Why don't game developers make World War II games anymore? There's so much history still left to scrape! The good news amid this dearth of WWII content is that the Assassin's Creed series could very well be heading that way.

While it sounds like the Ubisoft folks haven't gone beyond the "discussions" phase of Assassin's Creed III's settings, producer Sébastien Puel tells Xbox World 360 that anything is possible, even the heretofore untapped situations of World War II. And that the successor to Ezio and Altair could be...a woman!

Oh, sure, this too is all theoretical stuff, in the event that Ubisoft should make an Assassin's Creed III—or 35 more of them—but Puel indicates it's not just a random idea.

"We don't want to just decide we want to change and have a female hero as the first inspiration is always the time period," he says "but if you're talking about, say, World War II the economies in England and France were run by women because the men were off fighting." Clearly discussed.

Since Assassin's Creed II still hasn't shipped, we're going to take this discussion with a dash of scepticism. But who knows? A female assassin in Nazi occupied France and/or Germany? Sounds unique enough to me.

    Velvet Assasin anyone

I think world war 1 would be a more interesting setting, mostly if it involved the Russian front in WW2 before the communists lead the Russian revolution.

This sounds really interesting, keeping in mind that unless they change the gameplay dramatically you won't actually be fighting on the front lines or anything. Overdone in gaming or not, WW2 is a rich and fascinating period in history and the Assassin's Creed format would be a new way to experience it.

However, I'd rather see them explore the earlier Modern period a little more first.

I think that 1800's would be a more interesting setting. Perhaps Paris...

So instead of roof shelters and hay bails, bomb shelters and sandbags?

Hmmm the thing about Assassin's that i like, is the lack of weapons like guns etc...

The sword play and new melee weapons make it standout from other games that have a few melee weapons and swords and then kill it by putting guns in there or magic etc...

I don't think Assassin's Creed would work that well if it was guns etc... although a Pirates Assassin's would be awesome!!!!

Perhaps Ubisoft should develop a new Pirates of the Caribbean done RIGHT!!!!

i agree with Jay, gun play wouldn't really work with assassins creed, WW1 would be more interesting as akran said, but if you had enemy's that could fire 1 shot, and then have to reload it would be a LOT better than bolt actions. Also this enable them to include a very wide variety of places assuming it is kinda piratey. You could play in Singapore, the Caribbean, city's in Europe and early America now that would be interesting.
Alternatively if they did want it in a war, the civil war would be better for assassins but it would reduce the variety of the locations.
