In a podcast interview, Nolan North, the voice of Nathan Drake, indicated that Hugh Jackman is the preferred actor – by producers – for the upcoming Uncharted movie.

Desmond – er, Drake – er, North – told the Official Playstation Magazine UK’s podcast that not only is Jackman who he’d like to see take on the treasure hunters role, but the film’s producers agree too.

Jackman is who I’d like to see. I think the producers would like to see Jackman too, because he has that tough guy exterior, but […]there’s also a lot going on behind his eyes. A lot of emotion and sensitivity on that brusque exterior, and he has great comic timing. He’s a phenomenal actor. I just hope I get a part on the movie so I can work with Hugh.”

For his part, North said he’d of course “love to do the movie; obviously I’d love to do it as Nathan Drake,” however, “I’ve done film and television and I understand the reality of the business.”

Those who follow me on Twitter know I’ve spent a ton of time in Borderlands lately, but I am also playing Uncharted 2 and for my money, North’s work is the best of any big-budget game I’ve played. And this isn’t his first rodeo (Prince of Persia, Assassin’s Creed). North does have screen credits, but he’s right that he’s not a marquee name. And it’s a shame. He’s a heavyweight in video game voice acting and if this business ever delivers a big Hollywood breakthrough for a game actor or actress, he’d be very deserving.

Nolan North Hints Heavily At Hugh Jackman Assuming The Role Of Nathan Drake In The Upcoming Uncharted Movie
[PushSquare via Joystiq]

  • Well for what its worth I would prefer North to do it… you know, I am a person who will PAY TO WATCH the movie, but you know, my opinion isnt counted when Hugh Jackman can play the role so that a bunch of people who have no idea about Uncharted can go to the cinema and see it…

  • Sounds like someone’s got a crush, lol… personally, I think directors should be banned from ruining our games with shitty movies… I *despise* Hugh Jackman… why do so many actors just have to be in everything? You can’t turn the TV on without seeing him or someone like him… I can’t take them seriously, firstly because he’s Wolverine, and second because he’s not anything like Nathan Drake, who I would picture as a lot younger.

Just think back to the Max Payne film… *shudders*

  • Has anyone seen a picture of Nolan North. He looks so much like Drake! I think they should just use him. Anyone else will just dilute the character for future games.

Hugh Jackman is sooo wrong for this character.

Although, as stated, Nathan Fillion would pulled it off easily.

  • nathan fillion
    did i say nathan fillion!
I wouldnt mind Joe Flanigan also but…

I will boycot the movie if Jackman is in it…just because of the chance of him pulling a wolverine on us.

  • Nathan Fillion is all i imagine when i play Uncharted. I actually thought it was him voicing it when i played the first game – even more convincing with his video-game ties & all.

Definitely Nathan even though Hugh bares a small similarity.

  • I’d be happy with Nolan North (although, seriously, how porn star is his name?), but I seriously can’t go past Nathan Fillion. If anybody has the comedic timing to pull off Drake’s humour, it’s without a doubt the guy who played Malcom Reynolds.

  • I strongly disagree with using Hugh Jackman. They need to use an unknown! Besides, Hugh Jackman is too old now, and too ‘wolverine’.
Nathan Drake is about 27 years old in Drakes fortune and 29 or 30 in Among theives.

  • Choosing a voice for these games can be a “make or break it” decision for the entire game. I believe that Jackman is a talented enough actor to distinguish his portrayel of wolverine and this new character. He’s got the “gruff” if you will in his voice to portray toughness and he also possesses the ability to convey emotion. It’s a totally different ballgame when you act on camera and on the microphone. I think he can do it.
