Grand Theft Auto IV Is On Demand

Xbox 360 owners no longer need to leave their homes to commit heinous crimes, as Grand Theft Auto IV joins the Games on Demand lineup at a price that's actually rather reasonable.

Now the mean streets of Liberty City are only a 7GB download and $US29.99 away from the net-connected Xbox 360 owner. The $US30 price tag is consistent with retail prices on the Platinum Hits version of the title and only $US5 more than GameStop charges for it used, so depending on how much you value your time and gas money, it might be a better deal to download the game via the Xbox Live Marketplace. If anything it will save those of you who traded the game back in after finishing the Lost and Damned DLC the embarrassment of having to re-purchase it again in order to experience the upcoming Ballad of Gay Tony expansion.

I know that feeling far too well.

Lets fathom how much this would cost in Australia

OnDemand most likely $49.95 (being generous on the price, but lets estimate that as the Classic Hits price range)
Internet usage for 7Gb of data (again, lets compare that on the average Bigpond ADSL plan of $90 for 25gb and you'd get about $24 for your download)

    $49.95+$24 = $73.95

No thanks Microsft. Even factoring in a different internet plan with another company (with the exception of iiNet - because some douche here will say iiNet doesnt count XBLA traffic) the speeds alone would make it easier to head off to JB HiFi and get a second hand copy.

Someone (ie Microsoft, Sony and yes even you Nintendo with your $15 N64 ROMS) try a little harder to give us gamers some value for money

Even a first hand copy at JB is only $68

plus let's not forget the question of where the hell that 7gig download is going to go - those of us with old machines who only have a 20gig harddrive, that's a fairly large portion (and don't give me this "you can delete games you don't play anymore and download them anyway" excuse, that's not a good enough answer)

If you're on a Telstra phone line, look into the AAPT bundle with home phone and unlimited downloads from 8pm to 8am (and yes, it's actually unlimited, not like Telstra calls their plans "Unlimited Pro")

Unfortunately I'm on an Optus phone line so cant get it :(

This journo is a loser who didn't do his homework. You don't need GTA IV to play Gay Tony.

Jay, you need GTA IV if you purchase the Ballad of Gay Tony via download. You don't need GTA IV if you purchase the Episodes disc.

I am aware of that - but i dont think journo is.

Anyway, wouldn't be embarrassing having to re-buy GTA IV anyway cause it wasn't that good of a game to be embarrassed trading it in a month after it coming out. I, for some reason still own the game which i don't actually know why.

Anyway - they don't need to be embarrassed if they just purchase the "Stories from Liberty City" if they only want to play Gay Tony (if someone has traded in GTA IV). It would seem stupid to re-purchase GTA IV if you've already traded it in just to play Gay Tony when there is another, easier way cause you wouldn't have traded GTA IV in the first place.
