Sony: Playstation Continues To Redefine Entertainment

Riding high on tonight's news that the Playstation 3 was the top selling home console in September according to NPD, the head of Sony Computer Entertainment of America says they've only just begun.

Nearly half a million people purchased Playstation 3s in September, according to NPD figures.

"We are in the midst of one of the most exciting times for PlayStation as we continue to redefine entertainment experiences for consumers, both at home and on the go," Sony's Jack Tretton said, pointing to the price drop for the Playstation 3 and the release of the PSPgo. "We've made unprecedented strides in digital and mobile entertainment with the availability of PSPgo."

"The best part is that we've only just begun an onslaught of relentless, rich content hitting throughout the fiscal year, including Ratchet and Clank Future: A Crack in Time, God of War III, MAG, and ModNation Racers," he said.

Tretton said that Sony is "continuing to stack the chips this holiday with great game content" mentioning the release of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the PSP and Assassin's Creed 2.

He also pointed out the rave reviews that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves has been getting from review publications, including this one.

"There simply has never been a better time to be part of the PlayStation family and we look forward to providing you with the best entertainment content and experience for many, many years to come," he said.

Lol @ Sony blowing their wad after one month.....the weeklys have been showing a decrease ever since the drop.

Back to 3rd place for you

Wrong, ps3 will hold top place just like Mark Webber did in Brazil on Sunday. Now that all the 10 year old's parents can afford to buy them one, xbox will take a back seat until it's lifespan ends.

    Just begun??

Its a shame all the other console makers begun when they released their consoles those years back...

I wonder are Sony making profit on hardware units yet? I doubt the acumen of throwing so much behind exclusives when the charts show everyone's buying Fifa and Guitar Hero instead.

well uncharted 2 came out last wk so reports on those sales should be up maybe soon

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Uncharted 2 and i throughly enjoyed the first. But why is everyone getting ahead of themselves with U2 sales.

Hmm hold that, i should say Uncharted 2 sales cause well, U2 sales are very pale at the moment.

Anyway - SimExchange have only forecasted Uncharted 2 to sell around 4 million copies. I'm about 101% sure GT5 Prologue has sold more and GT5 WILL sell more. GTA IV has probably sold more too probably. I know this is Sony's OWN exclusive title - but c'mon people.

SimExchange aren't that bad with their predictions and word-of-mouth can and hopefully will give Uncharted 2 an even wider appeal to other gamers, PS3 owners and those who aren't.

Just, well, the PS3 doesn't have those BIG sellers like the Wii and the 360 do have. Everyone seems to think Uncharted 2 is THAT title - and it definitely has the appeal and well, its just super awesome to BE that title. I still don't think it will.

I'm not hating on Sony, altho i do prefer my Xbox 360 (i do have a PS3 too) and i love that its fighting back (altho disappointed it only happened through a slim) -i think they're getting ahead of themselves here.

I'm pretty sure Microsoft have sold more than 500,000 in a month when it hasn't been launch OR Xmas. Could be wrong but i'm pretty sure. Oh AND Nintendo shifted something like 1,000,000 last year and sold 500,000 nearly every month for some time.

ANYWAY - Uncharted 2 is wicked. So props on them for using that in their media briefing.

It's amazing that the PS3 can be the top seller once there's a price cut. This should have been the case with psp go. the 3000 should have been dropped to $200 mark and the the go to be priced at the $300 mark as from earlier reports that it actually costs less to manufacture the psp go due to the costly umd drive. Thats how you get ppl to embrace the new unit not by saying "ZOMG new games coming out" I must admit that Sony has definatley lost its edge this generation due to poor marketing and poor concepts.
