The Left 4 Dead 2 Boycott Is Dead

Vocal Left 4 Dead 2 detractors and founders of the boycott against the game, Agent of Chaos and Walking_Dead, will be putting an end to the group established to protest the sequel as of next week. Why the concession?

"We have accomplished everything we can on our manifesto," wrote Agent of Chaos on the group's Steam Community space. "We've been dealing with Valve ever since our group started, then we met them in-person and now we're at the point of concluding our discussions. Our goal wasn't to steer people away from L4D2, it was to get Valve's attention and have them support original L4D. We succeeded and that's where our mission ends; nothing more or less."

The duo sound more like evangelists at this point, having personally met with Valve and shown what the future of Left 4 Dead holds. The two appear to finally be on board with this whole Left 4 Dead 2 thing.

"The boycott has served its purpose and it is now up to you all as individuals to decide what is right for you," writes boycott co-founder Walking_Dead in a follow up. "As a collective we have done more than achieve a few goals, we have paved the way for Developer-Community relations in the future. No matter what the press or other gamers say, we have made an indelible mark upon the future of this industry. You should all be proud, we certainly are."

It really warms the heart, doesn't it?

'paved the way... an indelible mark on the future of the industry..'

Delusions of grandeur maybe? The whole issue was nothing more like a bunch of misguided whingers having a sook, which Valve commendably took the time out to pander to.

Hope this is the last we see of this ridiculous episode.

I couldn't agree more. I'm quite sure this group could never have existed and the world would have kept turning. Paved the way for Developer-Community relations? It implies that there hasn't been relations in the past which there most certainly has been, and Valve more than anyone!

I have no idea what these two have achieved, if anything. But then I never saw the point in the boycott in the first place. EA Releases a new sport game in every franchise every year and no one bats an eyelid. Meanwhile L4D is actually enjoyable so whats wrong with giving it the same enhancements?

It definitely pushes the community-developer interaction to a new height, but I hardly think it's something that these guys accomplished. If there is one dev in the world who would actually respond to community in this manner, it's Valve. They have excellent track record in keeping in touch with the community, and I think this shows that they actually care.

Now let's see these two guys try boycotting EA and see if they cares.

I'd like to offer a collective "that's nice dear" to whats-his-name and the other one.

This whole thing could have been avoided if they didn't announce the game so early.

People just freaked cause they'd bought the game only a couple of months earlier. Imagine if you saw the news today, or listed when crash course came out - L4D2 Nov. 15

Everyone would have been ready for it.
But, I suppose you can't have a QTR4 game release without making a scene for 6 months.

personally i just think they sold out.

they had other concerns about some of the content in l4d2, like the fiddle music...

    what ever happened to that?

      I think steve is right.
I also think steve likes yogurt.

For them to do a backflip like that must mean L4D is getting an amazing amount of new content...

    Hmm..let me rephrase that..

For them to do a backflip like that must mean they have an amazing sum in their bank acct..

    There's fiddle music in L4D2?!?

This just became day one purchase for me now! Where, perchance is an example of said fiddle music my fine fellow commentors?

I doubt Valve were THAT concerned about the boycott to that degree they would pay them to STFU.

I mean predictions were that L4D2 was going to outsell the first anyway. More people know of the game, so for those who would have boycotted (if they really would have) would have been made up by new comers. More promoting of the game and advertising would have made up for it.

And anway, i always doubted their boycotting anyway. They most likely would have purchased the game anyway! Attention seekers is the phrase i would choose.

For me, this is a kind of half victory.

Whereas b4, i was not going to buy left 4 dead 2 AT ALL, now i will probably purchase it the first time they have a 50% off weekend. It's no-where near worth it for a full priced purchase, ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY SHOULD BE WORKING ON EPISODE 3 INSTEAD, but i'll get it for half price

I WANT MY EPISODE 3 NOW!

Boycott or not, Im still not going to buy it if it's censored.

Got to agree with this. Which is a shame as it's not Valve's fault at all and I don't want to deny them my precious money. Worse comes to worse I'll just stick with L4D.

Right there with you, man. I will -not- support an industry which is being censored. I'll make my choice with my dollars, and support some other nation's industry.

      +1
I'm not supporting this country's industry financially while its regulators are still so corrupt and evil.

LMAO god these guys actually think they achieved something?????

I mean, the simple fact is that the game isn't exactly a giant project for them when compared to something like, say Halflife 2. It wouldn't require the team size.

And boycott? Do they think they could harm the sales numbers honestly? Given they'd really be buying their own copies behind each others backs 'just to test out the game to show the differences' blah blah...

Sorry guys but what a BS load of delusions of grandeur as the first comment said. I'm sure Valve had a good time bringing you there and laughing at you behind your backs and all, but jesus... did you actually do anything worthwhile like the guy in australia who raised thousands to get Gabe here then donated it to Childsplay? Or did you sit around jerking off to Whorecraft porn and whining about being given more variety than you can shake a stick at?

Goddamn morons... 'Waaaaah Im being given choice and I dont like it waaaaah!'

BUY THE GAME - YOU ARE HURTING THE WRONG PEOPLE IF YOU DON'T! omg.

The ESRB censored - they only care that you don't play an offensive\disturbing game.

      ----

NOT buying a game just hurts the games industry. Enough people will buy L4D2 that Valve will be fine.
For a smaller company you could literally sink them - there are already enough big companies that are going down financially as it is.

Snap, I clicked the wrong Reply button.
Was aimed for the posts above.

Meh! they probably played a demo of L4D2 loved it and are now retracting anyways who cares... NEXT!

Lucky we had these guys.. Valve would never have developed a relationship with their community or gamers without them.. what a joke..

And by definition a boycott means that you aren't going to buy a product so its now more of a 'we had a winge club' than an organised boycott..

Looks like Valve flying these faries out did the trick.. well played..
