Let's Compare Tekken 6 Load Times

Late last month, Tekken 6 was released on the PS3 and the Xbox 360. The editors at Japan's Gemaga decided to see how the load times stack up.

Both the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions compared with the game running installed on the hard drive as well as running off the actual disk. When the game is installed on the hardware, there isn't that big of a difference between the PS3 and the Xbox 360 — the Xbox 360 is slightly fast by a few seconds, but no biggie.

However, according to Gemaga, it takes over thirty seconds (33 seconds, to be exact) to change a character and change a stage running the actual game disc on the PS3, compared with the 11 seconds it takes to start a fight on the Xbox 360 using the game disc.

Not sure whose fault this is or what the deal is exactly, but I want multi-platform titles to be truly multi-platform — meaning that everyone has the same gaming experience. Anything less is simply unfair.

You *do* realise the read times on Blu-Ray are slower than DVD...right? The disc might have much higher capacity but also has a much slower read speed.

It's not so much read speed as it is data transfer rate. Since Blu Rays are read at a constant speed the transfer rate is variable depending on the position of the laser on the disc, where the DVD variable disc spin rate can counter act this.

It all comes down to how the Blu Ray data is structured to counteract load times. That's why there are PS3 games with very little load times without HDD install (and some that are not). It's just getting around the format which will come with time.

With Tekken 2 you could play Galaga while waiting for the game to start up. Wish they'd do something like that again.

You do realise Ps3 esclusive games have small load times or only one load time. This is careless ness on the developers part. And if the bluray was an issue they could push the data to the outside

But you can add any HDD you like to the PS3, so disc load times really aren't an issue when $100 buys you a 500GB hard drive, you just install everything.

The joys of sandwiching a disc drive completely not designed for gaming into a gaming console... good thing they implemented HDD stuff to counter it.

The child in me wants to say 'now you know how we xbox 360 people feel about Tales of Vesperia' but I know it's got nothing to do with Sony or Microsoft.

Developers need to shape up and make it fair!

HAHA ON PAL VERSION IT TAKES LIKE 4 SECONDS TO LOAD!!!
