2009: The Year The Xbox 360 Practically Vanished In Japan

Looking back, 2006 and 2007 were awesome years for console sales. 2008 was so-so. 2009? Blergh.

This colourful graph from the TV Tokyo news shows console sales in Japan from 2005 to 2009. Each platform is colour coordinated, and there is a colour key in the corner. The grey box that reads その地 means "Other".

The numbers on the side start at 2 million and max out at 16 million. Notice the drop off in 2008 and then 2009? Notice anything else?

Well, besides the lady's fancy finger nails. That's right, the Xbox 360 has all but disappeared from the sales tally. 2008 saw Xbox 360 games like Tales of Vesperia. 2009 didn't. At least the PS2 is still hanging in there!

Holy shit...... wait.... why are there 2 read lines in 2009? one below the pink, and one just above it.... Maybe that's the 360, and the fucked it up?.....

I think you are right. They just messed up the colours, which does make more sense.

The first red line could be the PSP3000 while the second red line may represent the PSP Go.

    woops.....

    Red, not read.....

2009 was a bad year for the 360 in Japan but every year since its release has been anyway, so i think people should stop making such a big deal about it.

BUT from the articles being posted weekly about the sales in Japan, i would say the 360 didn't do that bad when comparing it to the DS Lite and PS2.

Both of those has outsold the 360 this year, but not the margin that the PS3 and Wii have. So i kinda think, until they show the yearly numbers of each console, then we can have a good look at the comparison.
