AU Diary: Awards And Anomalies

I spent last night at the Golden Joystick awards and then today avoiding anomalies in the Russian metro system.

The Golden Joysticks are the Australian version of the long-running UK games awards. They’re put on by Future Publishing, the UK’s biggest games magazine publisher and responsible for the Official Nintendo and Official Xbox mags here, too.

For some reason, the poll included games released from October 2008 to September 2009, rather than the full calendar year. There were only a handful of categories for the general public to vote in, so here are the winners:

Best Xbox 360 Game: Fallout 3
Best PlayStation 3 Game: LittleBigPlanet
Best Wii Game: Wii Sports Resort
Best Retailer: JB Hi-Fi

Congratulations, video games!

Today I spent much of my afternoon being scared shitless playing Metro 2033, a deeply unsettling horror shooter from THQ and some of the guys who worked on the original S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. It’s certainly got that same vibe and feels like it’s set within the same world with its references to anomalies and even Stalkers. Look for more impressions on that soon.
