Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is mounting a lone final stand against the assembled mass of Wii software intent of obliterating the entire top ten this holiday season.

It’s hanging on with grim determination, but it may not last much longer. Remarkably, the PS3 version continues to outsell its Xbox 360 rival, as it has done every week except the launch week. With the multiplayer being the core reason to buy Modern Warfare 2, I’m wondering if there’s a lot of people out there who own both consoles but would rather play online for free.

Elsewhere, New Super Mario Bros. maintains its grip on the top spot, as I predicted a fortnight ago. Expect it to hang on there until we see the likes of Mass Effect 2 and BioShock 2 arriving next year.

    • L4D2 has been hovering around the #5 position on both the 360 and PC charts since release. It seems to have done OK, but perhaps not as well as it might had it not been butchered.

    • I disagree with your view on the censored version, i have played both the uncut and the censored versions, i own the censored version, its not that bad, when I get playing I barely notice anyway. I thought the edits looked terrible before I played it but then I realised it really doesn’t matter that much to me, although the gore would be nice to have its not actually necessary for my enjoyment of the game.

  • It’s unlikely, but I do hope that The Saboteur can crack into the Top 10 for next week…

The last game from Pandemic deserves better, it’s certainly rough, but it’s still a solid and fun little title…

Even if it doesn’t make it David, can you put in a special request to find out how it did?

  • L4D2 isn’t a game i would imagine someone buying from K-Mart or Big W – more of a game that if those places were cheaper, one would price at EB Games.

If so, thats the reason it wouldn’t chart. Same goes for MW2 – i would find more people buying it (whoever is left) from JB or EB or Game rather than the other stores.

  • I might not like the game but thank god for Modern Warfare 2 – if it wasnt for that game this chart would look like a joke

And Carnival Games? Are you serious? Can we PLEASE stop counting games packed with hardware on this list? We might actually have a TRUE reflection of the games people are actually buying.

    • Like it or not that’s the true reflection. When you start moving games you don’t want on the list out you’re only fooling yourself. The list doesn’t exist to show you what’s being played or what games are good. Its just a simple ‘who sold the most’ contest.

If you take out games that come with hardware you might as well take out games that come with other games, games that were on special, games that were pre-ordered, games with bonus content packaged in. You also have to adjust for price differences, availability, gameplay time, how good the game is, the hype, returned/traded-in games and a whole bunch of other stuff.
Even after all that its still not going to look like you want it to because there are millions of people buying and playing and most of them have terrible taste.

  • Wow, I knew a lot of people owned Wii’s, but… really? Ok I’d probably play New Super Mario Bros, and I know there’s a lot of people that oddly like to pay money to play exercising games they could do without a Wii, but Wii Cricket? Mario and Sonic at the Olypmics??

  • The charts seem to show the splurg of parents buying up for kids for Christmas.

How else could there be two Mario & Sonic Olympic Games games?
