Guilty Gear Gearing Up For 360, PS3

Series creator Daisuke Ishiwatari has revealed that Arc System Works are looking at bringing a new entry in the Guilty Gear series to the PS3 and Xbox 360.

"What we can say about Guilty Gear is that it is not dead yet", Arc System's Tomo Ohno told NowGamer. "It has not ended. The producer/creator of Guilty Gear, Daisuke Ishiwatari, his comment for this meeting [was]‘I have the full intention to create Guilty Gear for PS3 and 360."

That's a proper Guilty Gear, too, not a spin-off thing like Overture.

Fans will remember that earlier in the year it emerged that Arc System Works had lost the rights to the series. Guess Ishiwatari and Sega managed to work something out! Or, at least, are trying to work something out.

Wow this is awesome, guilty gear was such a fun game! Hopefully this falls through!

What you just said made no sense whatsoever.

        i lol'd
Hopefully they can make a nice looking game like blacblue without the jagged sprites!

While I most definitely welcome your article, Luke (being a huge fan of the Guilty Gear series), I find that you have inaccuracies in some of your reporting related to this topic.

For one, Guilty Gear 2: Overture was not a spin-off title. It may have been utterly average, had nearly nothing to do with pre-established characters and settings (due to issues of licensing), and was a completely different genre to the other games in the series, but it was, for all intents and purposes, a direct sequel to the original Guilty Gear title. Daisuke Ishiwatari has stated in multiple interviews that this is the case, including one or two reported on from this particular site. He has also yet to state otherwise on this matter.

Daisuke Ishiwatari has also stated in these same interviews, generally straight after the mention of Guilty Gear 2: Overture being the direct sequel to the original Guilty Gear and the canonical continuation of the storyline, that the Guilty Gear X series was a spin-off to the original Guilty Gear, and that the storylines contained within this series of games are non-canonical and are a 'what-if?' continuation of the story. You could make the argument that as the X series was a continuation of the style of gameplay that the original Guilty Gear offered, the X games should be classified as direct sequels. However, using Street Fighter as an example, the Alpha series of games are still classified as part of a spin-off series, even though no games from the main series were released until about a year before Alpha 3. They may have been the main series of Street Fighter games being released at the time, but they were still a spin-off. Alpha's storyline is considered canonical and tied into the main series' storyline, but that's neither here nor there.

On top of that, you've stated that this new Guilty Gear game will be "a proper Guilty Gear, too, not a spin-off thing like Overture". Forgetting about the spin-off topic for a moment, the article you have gotten your information from does not mention at all that the new title will feature gameplay like the original Guilty Gear or the Guilty Gear X series, or that the new title will be 'a proper Guilty Gear' (I assume by your wording that you mean like the 2D fighters in the overall series, rather than the gameplay featured in Guilty Gear 2: Overture. The only other mention in that article of possible continuation of the Guilty Gear series (in any form) was from Tomo Ohno, when he said that they wish to "make sure fans of Guilty Gear continue to have fun in that world". While I'm sure that it is unlikely that they will continue with Guilty Gear 2: Overture's style of gameplay, as the title sold poorly and alienated a fair amount of their fans, there is no mention whatsoever of what genre this new Guilty Gear title will be, or whether it will be a 'proper' Guilty Gear title.

Anyways, thanks again Luke for bringing this great news to our attention, and please do not take anything that I have said personally, as this is not a malicious attack on you in any shape or form.

    Holy shmxncz!
    The words!! Brain ..can't handle...!

Damn I hope it does come to light as a 2d fighter. But I hope they go with 3d sprites because they be able to create and make more of the X series characters into the new game. And sol, ky and dizzy keep their new look. Blazblue was great but I still have a special spot fo GG. Hopefully they intergrate all of the GGxxAC characters.

@Neil Williams: I don't believe the X series weren't spin offs as they intergrated it into the story, but I do know what has been said, but he still intergrated most of it.
