Objection! Activision Now Suing No Doubt

No Doubt suing Activision was one of the feel-good stories of 2009. Mostly because it involved somebody suing Activision. Activision, however, are now counter-suing No Doubt. And things are probably going to get messy.

No Doubt's beef comes from the fact they claim they only signed on to appear in the game singing No Doubt songs. Activisions, meanwhile, are suing the band over allegations including "failing to do its due diligence on the videogame before signing away its digital likeness, breaching a contract to provide marketing and promotion to the game, and being unjustly enriched by their inclusion in the game."

You have to wonder whether the money Activision stand to win from this - if they win - is worth all the bad press.

Activision countersues No Doubt in 'Band Hero' flap [The Hollywood Reporter]

    I dont think Activision cares what you, i, or anyone thinks. They've made that abundantly clear.

    There's no such thing as bad press. Every time this story runs it puts the words "No Doubt" and "Guitar Hero" (or "Band Hero" or whatever) in the same sentence; existing fans aren't going to go off the game just because No Doubt disapproves and everyone who's not played the game will suddenly be curious about exactly HOW No Doubt appears in the game.

      I hate this prevalent idea that there's no such thing as bad press - of course there is, just ask Tiger or Kanye! In this case, Activision's continued disrespect of the artists they're collaborating with will scare off future projects, while Rock Band is simultaneously garnering great respect for the way they depicted the Beatles. I expect to see Rock Band get the bigger bands in the future because of this.

      Kurt Cobain is a better example of ignoring an artist's personal and political agendas, and it's the exact same objection in No Doubt's case, but at least Activision have the sensitivity not to countersue his estate...

    The only abundantly clear thing is Activision's successful dairy market.

    "...And you know it makes me sick to be on that list,
    But I should have thought of that before we kissed"

    I think anyone who knows what Activision is, probably couldn't care less about no doubt hahah, I think the main feeling is "Oh activisions doing it again, them rascals". Plus i don't think activision could care less when they have dev's like Infinity Ward bringing in truck loads of money every minute.

    This will garner a little media attention, and then they'll drop a trailer for COD7 and all will be forgotten.

    I wonder if No Doubt will retain the same legal team who failed to read the small print of their Band Hero contract :)

    $vivendi = array('Activision','Blizzard');

    I think they've got a bit of to throw away on a washed up act like No Doubt. Hey if they win that's a big win for the music scene, No Doubt should have died long ago...
