BioWare: Hollywood Very Interested In Mass Effect Film

BioWare's Casey Hudson, the project director for Mass Effect 2, acknowledged a "tremendous amount of interest" from Hollywood in a Mass Effect film but vows such a movie, if done, will be done right or not at all.

"Obviously we have a tremendous amount of interest from people in Hollywood to make a major motion picture about 'Mass Effect,'" Hudson told the MTV Movies Blog. "The most important thing for us is, we don't just want to see a movie get made. We want to see a great movie get made, if it's going to get done at all."

Way back in the middle of 2008, Avi Arad, best known for several successful (and some less so) comic-book adaptations, optioned the rights to a Mass Effect film. But there has been no news of such a project since then. This may be deliberate. Hudson's comments make it apparent that BioWare isn't in a hurry and wants to be sure the film has a story worthy of this franchise.

"We're just looking at our options there, but waiting to make sure we have something really right before we do it," he told MTV Movies.

EXCLUSIVE: There's 'A Tremendous Amount Of Interest' In Developing A 'Mass Effect' Film [MTV Movies Blog]

I really think that a TV series would be better suited to an adaptation of Shepard's Story if that was going to be the story. If they chose to follow the story of the games and have Shepard as the main character i think being a TV series, would allow them to cover alot more of the story then a movie ever could.

If they weren't going to follow Shepard and they were going to do a spin-off based off the ME universe then movie/tv series would be fine.

if there gonna do a mass effect movie or TV series make like the book and not have shepard as the lead charictor or even bettor dont even have him make an appearence just use the universe and make your own story like the books shepard should be the staple of the games and someone else should be the staple of the movies just like grayson is the staple of the books

I got the first and second books (as far as I can tell), the prequel and the one after the events of ME1. Revelation and Ascencion I think. Grayson only appears to be in the second one. Does he appear in more?

I think he got Grayson and Kahlee Sanders mixed up.

theres a 3rd book coming grayson's the lead charictor in the blurb ive read on the bioware website is he get implanted with reaper tech by illusiv eman and wants revenge (not in those words but along those lines)

I know about that but it is most likely going to involve Sanders as the novels seem to be revolved around her in some ways and with her experience with AI technology she most likely will be in Redemption. Since Sanders has played a main role in both 1/2 its best to assume she will in 3.

Movie? Bioware / EA should tell Hollywood that they'll call 'em back - after they launch an MMORPG that'll take people out of the cinema and plugged into the Mass Effect universe.
After they're done ruining my life with Star Wars: Old Republic...

I agree with Greg, keep it away from those we love, so if it sucks we don't shed too many tears. I read both books, btw, and they were okay.

I love the mass effect games but I don't need or want a movie based on them. Movies should be movies and games should be games.

A movie could work well if it didn't follow the games story. I think a future game or movie outside of the mass effect trilogy could be set during the first contact war.

Few years after we've set up a few colonies and then the game or movie or whatever takes place when the Turians show up and attack us. The codex has a whole bunch of information, a battalion (or whatever) was trapped on the colony fighting gurella warfare until the Alliance Fleet showed up and took out the Turians.

it would suck jesus christ's donkey balls if it whas ever made

IF Sheppard was to be a character or main character, suggestions for WHAT popular actors could portray him. Appearances etc...

      Whoopi Goldberg.

Him? My vote goes to a female Shephard - played by Scarlett Johansson.

You can't make a movie from the game - choice and variety is part of the RPG.

I wouldn't mind seeing, say, a prequel with the human-turian war, or other unrelated events.
