Dragon Age: Awakening Expansion Out In March

You remember that full Dragon Age expansion that turned up in New Zealand last year? It's real, and it's out on March 16.

The expansion, called "Awakening", will allow players to import (and edit!) their characters from the main game, and should run for around 15 hours. For the best explanation of what's going down, the pack's GameStop page is the best place to go.

For centuries, the Grey Wardens-the ancient order of guardians, sworn to unite and defend the lands-have been battling the darkspawn forces. Legend spoke that slaying the Archdemon would have put an end to the darkspawn threat for centuries to come, but somehow they remain. You are the Grey Warden Commander and have been entrusted with the duty of rebuilding the order of Grey Wardens and uncovering the secrets of the darkspawn and how they managed to remain. How you choose to rebuild your order, how you resolve the conflict with "The Architect", and how you determine the fate of the darkspawn will be but some of the many complex choices that await and shape your journey as you venture to the new land of Amaranthine.

You know, when you haven't finished the game - like I haven't - that paragraph is some funny reading.

'spoiler alert' would have been helpful :P

Seeing this really makes me hope they'll do similar stuff for mass effect 2.

I still think March is too soon for a full expansion, But I trust the Bioware will make this a great game. I really hope this game will add things retroactively like new quests in areas in the original game, Plus a new origin story if I remember correctly.

I just read on the Gamestop site that this expansion will have 5 new playable characters, damn that’s awesome.

I agree with Steven Bogos. Even though it's not that much of a spoiler you should still mention ABOVE the text that it's a spoiler.

Any rumours about price or download/disc availability? The price is going to be a fine balancing act, I've been thoroughly spoiled by The Lost & Damned and The Ballad Of Gay Tony which ran for about that long and weren't too expensive

      Its $39.99 USD

    * Mild Spoiler *

My character sacrificed himself to kill the archdemon. I was happy with his death because it was in my mind the 'right' thing to do. Unless i get to play as a zombie grey warden i am not going to be happy with some stupid 'oh by the way you didnt realy die' type of crap.

By the sound of it you may not end up playing as your original character. 15 hours is a bit more than finding a new NPC at your camp. Although I guess 15 hours wouldn't be much with 5 new origin stories.

I'm just only now running my first full length play through of the vanilla release. Good to see so much new content already out and on the horizon for Dragon Age.

Nice! I'm totally addicted to Origins at the moment, so any new content is welcome. Also, lawl, spoilers.

Considering they had a decent amount of stuff developed and never put in the game that were available at launch to download or been released not long after, i would say this would be the same.

My guess is that, since its their to be used, they're dishing it out earlier than expected for a retail expansion. I would still think BioWare would be working on more stuff to come in a large capacity. They wouldn't wanna just screw up a new franchise and drop it for Mass Effect 2 - otherwise, what was the point of releasing it around Mass Effect's release date.

Although i am more excited for Mass Effect 2.

March release date isn't exactly clashing with Mass Effects late January date.

I should be annoyed that they've got so much stuff that could have made it on disc if they were willing to wait a few months extra, but at the same time the on-disc content is more than my money's worth and this is exactly what I wanted from Mass Effect (a steady stream of DLC).
Hopefully its a sign that they've developed a good DLC dev kit rather than just having content put to the side during actual development. I'd love monthly DLC for Mass Effect 2 to fill the void between Mass Effect 2 and 3.
