Kotaku's Top 5 List Of Top 10 Lists

Each week throws off several new video game lists ranging from the humorous to the trivial. What's better? A list of those. Here's a roundup of the rundowns out there.

The Nine Most Exciting Games of 2010 That Aren't Sequels [The Game Reviews]Didn't we just take this up? Given the industry's propensity for sequels and adaptations, this is more like "the nine original IPs scheduled for release in 2010." And why did they stop at nine? Am I missing something, or is Dark Void not a new IP?

Fifteen Greatest Videogame Villains [Manolith]Sephiroth, Bowser, scoop o' chocolate, scoop o' vanilla, don't waste my time. How about some imagination? Tavion, in Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast elicited probably the angriest and most exultant reaction I've ever had beating a non-finale boss character. Rather than greatest, we need to get to the bottom of who pissed us off the most, and not because of their difficulty. That's a good villain. That means you cared.

The Top 10 Ways Gaming is About to Change ... Forever [Gamefaqs]Not as forward-looking as the title suggests, but it is a strong rundown of 10 powerful trends in games that have either taken hold recently or are on the verge of doing so. "In my prediction, the most logical comparison would be that the industry of 2020 will resemble, of all things, YouTube. Rather than user-generated videos, the industry will be characterized by user-generated games." That is one bold statement. The writer also predicts the death of consoles: "A dominant platform will surface, pushing traditional consoles out of the market, replaced by the PC as it morphs to become more mobile and ubiquitous than the simple desktop model of today."

The 12 Most Annoying Sidekicks Ever [Games Radar]OK, let's cut to the chase because Tails is clearly No. 1, right? WRONG. It's ... Asshole Dog? From Duck Hunt? Wait, Asshole Dog is a sidekick? I always considered Asshole Dog to be more of an antagonist. Although I guess I probably also wanted to murder the rest of the sidekicks on this list. Including Tails, at No. 6.

Top 10 Books that Would Make Great Video Games [Planet Xbox 360]If Mafia hadn't been done already, I'd suggest Billy Bathgate by E.L. Doctorow. I am flat serious. Great mob book, easily identifiable core- and side-mission structure, two different settings, and surviving/outliving the head of a crime syndicate as a theme. Plus, it was named finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for literature, which I think would be a gaming first. As it is, there's a lot of fantasy on this list, plus Dune, which has been sued out of Second Life, so it doesn't sound like they're interested in an adaptation. What about The Elfstones of Shannara? Where's Terry Brooks?

The list of books that should be made into games seems a little outdated.

Having played Modern Warfare... I can't help but think that the Mathew Reilly Scarecrow series (Ice Station, Hell Island, Area Seven, Scarecrow) would be excellent.

Oh actually I believe the plot of Scarecrow is suspected to have been used without permission in an unlicensed video game called "The Mark". Matthew Reilly and his lawyers are known to be looking into the matter.

Just a minor complaint, but if possible could you please not mention the content of the articles in the post, or perhaps offer the links in the first half and then your thoughts in a seperate paragraph down the bottom. It's just that when I read the top 10 article titles I tend to read the first couple of lines of your posts and it sort of spoils the list for me.
