Mass Effect 2 Has DLC And Helmet Issues

The BioWare forums are being flooded with fan outcry over non-working downloadable content codes, Cerberus Network congestion, and helmet issues. If you've got problems, we have a few solutions, courtesy of BioWare's Chris Priestly.

The gaming masses attempting to take their first steps in Mass Effect 2 for the Xbox 360 and PC today have run into several issues with the game, mainly surrounding the downloadable content offered via the Cerberus Network, BioWare's in-game DLC delivery system. The Cerberus Network is a nifty way for Mass Effect players to access downloadable content without taking themselves out of the game, but right now it looks like more trouble than it's worth.

Players are reporting non-working GameStop Cerberus access codes, problems activating the network once they've entered their codes, and, in the case of the PC version, issues connecting to the network at all.

Chris Priestly has addressed many of these issues in a helpful message, recently posted on the BioWare forums. We've posted Priestly's helpful suggestions for those having issues below, as the forums are likely to explode if this keeps up.

One issue brought to our attention is not addressed in the forum topic, mainly because there isn't much that can be done about it. Some fans are outraged over the fact that the special armours in the game do not feature removable helmets. The situation is getting particularly heated in this forum thread, sent to us by Kotakuite Dorikin, in which players call for the termination of whoever made the decision to not include a helmet toggle feature.

Having watched my Shepard down several alien drinks directly into her Blood Dragon helmet, I suppose I can see their point.

While this is an important issue to some, I'd say we should let BioWare concentrate on getting the DLC working first. After that's out of the way, maybe we can do something about helmet removal, after which we can rally against the company for not including helmet hair.

Thanks to everyone who sent in tips about this issue. Hope this helps!

How can you tell if you are Cerberus Enabled:

When you start Mass Effect 2, there are two computers on the main menu. The computer on the right hand side of the screen should be open. If it is not then check to see that you've entered your Cerberus Code in the account creation screens located in game. PC Collector's Edition Issues :

We're aware that some PC Collectors' Edition Cerberus Codes are not working. If you have the number 1688108 on the bottom right of your Cerberus Network card and have not associated it to your EA Online account at 4:00 PM PST your codes will be fully functional. If you already have associated it to your EA Online account at 6:00 PM PST you can restart the game and your Cerberus Account will be available automatically!

Zaeed :

Some of you may be looking for Zaeed as a way to check your Cerberus Account. Zaeed is being propagated to Xbox Live as we speak and will be available mid day tomorrow (MST).

Timeouts:

Some users are reporting timeouts or connection drops to Cerberus Network. We are actively pursuing a fix to this and will update everyone once it is fixed on the server-side.

General Cerberus Issues:

If you've entered your Cerberus Activation Code through the web interface and have played other EA Games with EA Online accounts but are not seeing the Cerberus Mission Computer open on the main menu. You'll need to contact EA's Customer service line to ensure that the Gamer Tag in Xbox Live is associated with your EA Online account you've used to activate Cerberus.

Although the helmet removal may seem like a very minor grievance to some, it's the principle of the matter that is the issue. I mean, this is the year 2010. Mass Effect 1 had numerous infuriating design choices, like the godawful inventory and merchant system, the inability to level up squad members while in the Normandy, the skip dialogue button also being the accept button, I could go on forever. It was somewhat excused though because it was the first game of the series, and Bioware's first game on the console.

They really need to start paying attention to the little things in terms of basic functions. In a 50 hour game, you run into the little things A LOT. I hope they've cleaned up their act
in ME2, and that this lazy helmet issue is not indicative of other functions in the game.

Within 10 minutes of ME1 I had already picked out numerous flaws in the controls and menu system that I would have fixed if I was working at Bioware.

Bioware are a massive, wealthy company made up of many talented individuals (excluding whoever they've got hired as their User Experience Manager). There's no excuse for something so damn obvious in this age of gaming.

I'm on my third playthrough and let me tell you, there are some things that just make me want to pull my hair out.

Sorry, third playthrough of ME1 I meant.

I get where you're coming from, but its a freaking helmet!!!!

A DLC Armour helmet for that matter. It does not mean ALL armours come with an un-removable helmet. Its clearly just one (maybe more) set of armour thats helmet cannot be removed for the mean time.

It's clearly an error that they didn't pick up on that well - doesn't excuse their talent. So in the words of not giving a crap, 'Get over it'.

Question: I understand the deal with Cerberus when you get the pc version, but what about 360? Is it free on that in general or does the same deal apply?

    Att: Weresmurf.

I think it's the same on 360... or at least they never said differently.

Another new Bioware game, another series of issues and bugs.
I love bioware, but quality control is in need of major revision over there... perhaps EA should do something about it?

Being able to preload the game on steam already would be nice. :/

Firing a guy for a non-toggle helmet removal? Seriously?

That's pathetic. Amusing/annoying problem, for sure, but hardly game breaking. Shame on you, Bioware forumites.

Clearly calling for them to be fired is an exaggeration, but its still an appalling design decision. You've even got Chris Priestly on the forum link above saying its a "feature, not a bug".

Yeah, I'm sure that Shepard taking a drink with his helmet on and no way to actually consume the lqiuid was a 'feature' and not 'developers making a retarded decision'.

Well it's a f*cking stupid buggy feature, because in DRAGON AGE: ORIGINS I can run around in...

THE BLOOD DRAGON ARMOUR without my HELMET and wearing the pants, the gloves, the boots and the chest piece... and no helmet! And yet... I can remove, add, remove, add, remove, add, remove, add, remove, add, remove, add, remove, add, remove, add....... I think you see where I'm going with this...the helmet at my discretion.

This is a stupid design flaw. Armour of every other sort in the game is 2 pieces. Helmet and armour. It is designed that way. The Blood Dragon Armour should be exactly the same way.

there was that massive cock up where a bunch of items were free on xbox360. see

but i guess no one is really complaining about that. for such a huge game there is bound to be a few bugs that get through. bioware are usually really good at fixing this really quick, its only been out a day. give them a break and enjoy the game

I just wish I could start pre load via Steam.
    Oh how you tease me.

I'm with the, I just wish I could preload the damn game, crew. With the sometimes horrible speeds we get with Steam down here, there's a chance we're not even going to have the game downloaded by the release date.

When they say the DLC isnt working, is it just not working when DLed through the Cerebrus Network or all togather?

Lack of Helmet toggle is a let down, esp for DLC armours. -lldiego

Glad to see that I'm not going crazy, not putting in the code correctly.

The confusing part for me is that, I've played Dragon Age on the PC, registered that with Bioware. I got ME1 on the 360, registered that with my xbox account with Bioware. Now I've got ME2 on the PS3, and registered that. On my Bioware prifile, it lists all those games. And I can see a second laptop in the main menu screen offering to connect to ea. But I still can't redeem my code, nor download any dlc.

Like I said, glad to know I'm not going crazy.

On the issue of 'why couldn't they include this stuff on the disc?' I can understand that game dev's want to entice players to buy games new, rather than buy a second hand copy. But the Genesis Backstory Comic should have come standard IMO.
