New Super Mario Bros. Wii Has Already Outsold Mario Galaxy

I'm not sure if this is sad or impressive - probably a bit of both - but New Super Mario Bros. Wii has, in a little over two months, already managed to outsell Nintendo's last Mario game, Super Mario Galaxy.

NPD figures reveal that while Galaxy has sold 4.1 million copies in North America since being released over two years ago, New Super Mario Bros. Wii has already sold 4.2 million, despite Galaxy averaging much higher review scores than its 2D successor.

It's not that NSMB Wii is a bad game, far from it; just goes to show how important marketing and multiplayer are to Wii game sales, that's all.

Why am i not surprised by this? The 20yr old 2D mario formula, slightly boosted with multiplayer modes has surpassed the star collecting stick waggling galaxy. Wonder how SMG2 will fair...prolly not so good when NSMB2 WII comes out....which i'm sure it will.

The multiplayer doesn't boost the gameplay experience. m'jus'sayin'

Word. can't beat old school Mazza!!

that's your opinion, the other 4 million who bought it and are playing with their friends suggest otherwise.

What are you on about? I replied, and agreed with your comment, Not Adam's. I'm all about the multiplayer. Me and the missus can play together.

yeh clicked ur name by accident man, obviously i wouldn't post a comment that contradicts what i previously said. all good man.

I'll help make the decision for you. Its sad.

Galaxy probably would have sold more if it came out after NSMB Wii - Piggy-backing off the success (and better marketing) of both NSMBW and Mario Kart.

When was mario galaxy sold as a free pack in with the wii in bundles? I didn't see it happen upon galaxy's release and thus... your numbers.

now they are going to make more NSMB. and then NNSMB.
while progress to the franchise will cease.
