PSP Still On Top, Bottom In Japan Hardware Sales

The PlayStation Portable bookends this week's Japanese hardware chart once again, with Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep helping the PSP snag first place but doing no favours for the languishing PSPgo.

The UMD is winning the war against the digital download in Japan, with the PSP selling more than 71,000 units last week, the PSPgo moving a little over 2,000. On the console front, the Wii outsold the PlayStation 3 this week by a good 22,000 units, the combined might of the DS platform moving another 63,000-plus.

The specific numbers, courtesy of sales tracker Media Create, are below.

  • PSP - 71,186
  • Wii - 57,349
  • PlayStation 3- 35,156
  • Nintendo DSi LL - 30,418
  • Nintendo DSi - 27,292
  • Nintendo DS Lite - 6,574
  • Xbox 360 - 4,622
  • PlayStation 2 - 2,580

I wonder how long Sony needs to keep that retarded price tag on the PSPgo.

There's nothing in it that warrants such a high price. With the right price tag, I think it would sell quite well in Japan.

PSP Go = smaller screen, no UMD drive, cramped hand controls, $450 bucks, limited storage (on PSP3000 you can have 16GB AND umd drive).
Gee.... I wonder why no-one wants to buy one?
    PSP Go is a Turd
