Nintendo games are popular. People buy them up as if they were hotcakes. Nintendo games are not hotcakes. You cannot eat them. You play them.

Following hot on the heels of yesterday's news, the Kyoto-based game company has released global life-to-date numbers for some of its biggest titles. Let's have a look:

Nintendo DS

Pokémon HeartGold/SoulSilver: 3.78 million

Pokémon Platinum: 6.86 million

New Super Mario Bros]21.39 million

Tomodachi Collection: 2.74 million

Mario Kart DS: 17.28 million

The Legend of Zelda: Spirt Tracks: 2.45 million

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box: 2.23 million*

Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story 2.62 million

Professor Layont and the Curious Village: 3.04 million*

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky: 1.33 million

Brain Age: 18.59

*the game is sold as a Nintendo product overseas, so does not include Japanese sales numbers

Nintendo Wii

Wii Sports: 60.60 million

Wii Sports Resort: 13.58 million

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: 10.55 million

Wii Fit Plus: 10.16 million

Mario Kart Wii: 21.22 million

Wii Fit: 22.56 million

Wii Play (Wii Remote bundled): 26.71 million


    If I held shares in Nintendo those figures would make me very, very pleased. Between 7 Wii titles they've sold 165 million or so. Enough to thoroughly blow your socks off.
