Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime is taking names and setting expectations in the latest edition of the Wii's Nintendo Week program, saying that the next announced Legend of Zelda game for Wii will "come out when it's perfect".
That's not "before the end of 2010" as Nintendo president Satoru Iwata reportedly told Japanese newspaper Asahi Shimbun, a possible warning to North American Wii owners to cool their jets and settle in for a potential 2011 release. And that's not the first time that Mr. Fils-Aime has been non-committal on a Zelda 2010 date.
"Right now, it's still in development," Reggie says. "But the key message that Mr Miyamoto and Mr Aonuma is telling us is that it really has to be perfect when it launches. That really is what the Zelda fan is expecting."
With Nintendo already planning on releasing Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M in North America this year, adding The Legend of Zelda Wii to the mix just seems... not Nintendo's style.
I'm personally pencilling in the next console Zelda for early next year here in North America, very late 2010 in Japan. Probably a good idea for my English speaking, Wii owning brethren to do the same.
