Rumour: Dead Or Alive 5 Heading For PlayStation 3?

The latest issue of the Official PlayStation Magazine is carrying a brief rumour, claiming that the fifth game in the Dead or Alive series - one that's long been a Microsoft exclusive - will also be appearing on the PS3.

If correct, it wouldn't be the world's biggest surprise; not only is "former console exclusive goes multiplatform" an increasingly common headline these days, but series creator Tomonobu Itagaki has left developers Team Ninja, meaning the team are approaching the fifth game in the main series with a clean slate.

Of course, it was never really an Xbox exclusive to begin with, as games prior to 2001's Dead or Alive 3 appeared on the PS1, PS2, Dreamcast and Saturn. But still. Exclusive for eight years is long enough for some people to go taking things for granted.

    ahhh Itagaki.
Who once said that the worst 5 3D Figting games were Tekken 1,2,3,4,5. SO TRUE !
I miss DOA. One of the best 3D fighting games around.

DOA: the pioneers of the ludicrously large breasts in fighting games trend, they did it before it was cool. Seeing as I skipped Xbox and the 360, the last game I got was DOA2 and that was awesome. I look forward to this if the rumour is true.

YES i really hope its true, i really miss helena and hitomi

I've always liked the DOA games for one real reason - the ability to counter almost every move of any character with every character. Why is it that fighting games still do not try to create a proper counter mechanic that allows players to play defensively in a fighting game.

Not even Street Fighter allows this. The most they got was parrying in SF3, and that is gone in SF4 besides the focus strike. Countering should get popular fast to allow a true fighting experience. Though to be fair, I doubt DOA will get enough attention to address this issue.
