Aussie Nintendo Store: The Return Of Sonic, Knuckles & Frogger

A bumper week for the Nintendo downloads this week on all fronts, and we’re only missing out on one game this week!

The Crown Jewel this week is no doubt the Virtual Console, with Sonic & Knuckles hitting the store. It’s seems to be the port release of the title too, as it allows you to utilise ‘lock-on technology’ in conjunction with Sonic the Hedgehog 1, 2 and 3. The lock-on feature uses extra data from Sonic and Knuckles to modify those games in numerous ways. You’ll probably want to check Wikipedia regarding those, as the changes for 2 and 3 are quite substantial. No combining cartridges here though (obviously); the game will simply detect if you have downloaded the other games. Like all Mega Drive releases, the game is 800 Points.

On the WiiWare side of things, we have Frogger Returns, a modern update of the arcade classic, Frogger. The gameplay is pretty much untouched from the original but there is some multiplayer action to check out too, and for 500 Points, it’s a fair proposal. The other title is Overturn: Mecha Wars – a giant robot fighting game, if the title hadn’t already given it away. The good news about this one is that it has online multiplayer. It’s a bit simple but for 800 Points, it’s not overly expensive. And who doesn’t like giant robots blowing each other out.

DSiWare this week isn’t completely forgotten, thankfully, with Gameloft’s Let’s Golf being the top selection this week. It’s a port of the iPhone game of the same name and includes a couple of little DSi changes, like blowing in the microphone to influence the direction of the ball and using the Camera to take a photo of yourself for your profile. Aside from that, it’s a pretty solid golf game and will set you back 800 Points. There are also two more Electroplankton games out this week – Rec-Rec and Lumiloop – and, as usual, they’ll be up for 200 Points. The only game missing this week is a Sudoku one. There are already, like, 10 of them on the DSi Shop already, so you’re not missing much.
