BioShock 2 PC's Missing Gamepad Support Also Pissing People Off

The lack of true widescreen support in the recently released BioShock 2 isn't the only shortcoming that has PC gamers steamed. The lack of gamepad support, including the Xbox 360 controller, isn't sitting well with the typically keyboard-and-mouse loving crowd.

The official 2K Games forums (and the Kotaku tips line) is teeming with unhappy PC gamers who want to play BioShock 2 and want to play it on a gamepad. But that's not in the cards right now, as 2K Games says it is "just supporting keyboard and mouse" controls. Why?

"We made quite a number of significant changes to UI / HUD for the PC version of the game," notes to Cult of Rapture's BioShock PC Q&A. "The decision was made early on not to support controllers at all in order to ensure that we got the mouse and keyboard control absolutely right. This of course required a redesign of large parts of the UI and the player HUD. For example, we removed the Weapons and Plasmid Selection Radials in favour of a custom created Weapons Selection Strip which more accurately reflects the keyboard layout."

Whether 2K is willing to update the game to support gamepad support will likely depend on how squeaky the wheels get. For now, buyer beware: if you're attached to your gamepad, don't plan on using it in BioShock 2 any time soon.

Choosing a gamepad over a mouse and keyboard for a 1st person shooter?

    Who does that?!!??!?

I like all the comments going "derp derp one day they love keyboards now they want controllers idiots derp derp". Because we all know that there is exactly one single type of gamer and everybody thinks exactly the same thing, am i rite?

If you REALLY want to play with a controller, just grab one of those programs that allows you to map your joypad to keyboard/mouse controls...
    Seriously, it's not that hard.

Hmm... I wonder how bioshock would control with a wiimote & nunchuk...

I'm a casual gamer, and bioshock brought me into the world of FPS. I have never been a PC gamer until Bioshock 2. I purchased it for my PC when a good friend told me the graphics and customizations were exceptional. I was wary of doing it because all my experience is console based. Now I'm stuck with a game that doesn't play with a controller. I understand how hardcore FPS users will want the K&M based game play. People like me have a hard time adjusting to the strafing and menu switches...and no matter what my aim will suck. I play bioshock for the story and the immersive world...not the accuracy. I think it’s silly to exclude an entire group of people and even worse when the first game supported controller usage.

Quit being so opinionated!! I agree that mouse and keyboard are best for games like the Call of Duty series and other shooters, but some games kick but on a controller. Have you tried GTA4, Arkham Asylum, ANY racing sim, or even BioShock 1 on the keyboard?? The 360 pad works amazing on these types of games and lets me relax instead of having to sit at the desk. Personally, I like to lie back on the couch and play with the gamepad. And no... I am NOT going to go drop a bunch of cash on a console just to play a game with a controller. I like PC gaming for many obvious reasons... One of which is because of the choice to use the kb&m OR a pad!! Quit trashing the folks who want gampad support!! We’re not trashing you because you like the keyboard!!

PC elitist please stfu !! There is a reason developers are going MP ! Not because gamers want Controller support it is simply because the gaming world is evolving ! Stop living in the 80s with a key and mouse only option !
